Wimax and Advanced LTE will be over 100 Mbps and 42 Mbps wireless in Canada now

1. Samsung demonstrated Wimax 2 at 330 megabits per second in Japan

2. The Wimax 2 specification is nearly finalized and commercial deployment is expected starting in 2012

3. LTE Advanced has been given official 4G certification.

In order to qualify for official 4G status, wireless technologies need to achieve peak rates of 1Gbps in hotspots and 100Mbps while mobile, have to be fully IP-based and have the ability to switch between networks that include 4G, 3G and Wi-Fi.

4. Bell Mobility today announced the exclusive Canadian launch of the Novatel Wireless U547 Turbo Stick, the first 42 Megabit per second (Mbps) capable USB modem. Last week, Bell announced it was the first wireless company in North American to deploy leading-edge Dual Cell technology, which doubles the speed of HSPA+ mobile data service from up to 21 Mbps to as high as 42 Mbps. Bell has launched 42 Mbps service initially in Toronto and will expand service to more Canadian cities and towns through 2011. With download speeds up to 42 Mbps, upload speeds up to 5.7 Mbps and advanced antenna technologies to maximize data throughput and operating range, the U547 is an easy plug-and-play solution compatible with both Windows and Mac based operating systems. It also includes memory storage up to 32 GB via MicroSD.

The Novatel Wireless U547 USB Modem is available for $49.95 on a three-year term or for $199.95 with no term.

5. CSL has launched the world’s first LTE/DC-HSPA+ mobile network. The combined LTE/DC-HSPA+ network from CSL can deliver high-speed data with high accessibility and full coverage across Hong Kong. Long-term evolution (LTE) can dramatically increase both capacity and speed, and has the ability to provide peak downlink speeds of 100 Mbps with low latency. NOTE: the peak speed is based upon you being the only person using the service for a cellular node (this is pretty unlikely most of the time)
