Kumar said around Rs 2500 crore has been spent so far on the project, which began in 2009.
He replied in the affirmative when asked whether they have to raise funds for the additional 2×500 MW projects.
“Approximately, I will say, we will be raising funds of Rs 1000 crore”, he said and added that they planned to begin construction for the two plants by 2015.
The sites for locating four more 500 MW reactors are yet to be finalised. Coastal location is preferred for fast reactors,” he said.
Looking forward, Kumar said after setting up seven 500 MW fast reactors, Bhavini would go for 1,000 MW reactors which the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) would have developed.
3. Times of India – the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) has identified 10 places in India to set up the 700 MWe nuclear reactors and Kaiga is one among them. The Indian cabinet has approved two 700 MWe reactors at Kaiga. (unit 5 and 6 at that location)
4. The Hindu reported that a trial run with enriched uranium fuel was to start June 10 at Kudankulam 1, in Tamil Nadu. That has not happened. The only news from Kudankulam on Sunday was about an emergency preparedness drill. Looks like the process is still awaiting approval from the regulator, the AERB.
