The European Union sees a role for Supercritical Carbon Dioxide power generation with carbon capture and storage, increasing efficiency and cost reduction. In addition, they are giving attention to Small Modular reactor technology. Sandia labs in the US has a technology development roadmap for supercritical CO2 turbines for commercialization in the early 2020s.

Molten Salt Small Modular Reactors would be as much as 200 times smaller than conventional reactor systems…about as large as a backyard hot-tub. Power output would be about 30 times greater than conventional engines would mean numerous military applications.
