The US Marines and the Army are working together to design a new plate carrier called the Plate Carrier Generation III.
The new design is “less bulky, lighter in weight, and provides a smaller overall footprint than the current plate carrier while maintaining the same soft armor coverage and protection level. The new model is 23 percent lighter.
The Marine Corps is also looking to develop lighter body armor.
