Elon Musk released the first picture of the Boring Company’s Los Angeles tunnel.

The Boring company was permitted to dig a tunnel in Los Angeles and Maryland and is working to get permission for a New York to DC tunnel.

Elon Musk says traffic jams will be eliminated with multi-level tunnel networks for cars. The tunnels could also be used for Hyperloop transportation.

Musk spends only two or three percent of his time to the Boring company. It is a hobby. It is nevertheless making good progress.

A snail can currently travel 14 times faster than a tunnel boring machine and a preliminary goal will be for the Boring Company tunneling machine to catch up to the snail.

  3. What’s the big tube at the top? A way to get soil and gravel off of the drill face? A conduit to pump in concrete for the shoring structures? Both? Neither?

    I also notice that amidst all the high-tech looking concrete forms, there’s cute little trolley track in the floor. Looks like something out of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

      • Good point. It does look kinda HVAC-like, doesn’t it?

        I’m not gonna get really excited by the Boring Company until they start dealing with the logistics of removing the dirt and bringing in the shoring forms in a semi-automated fashion. Those are the two problems that enable the kinds of increases in digging speed that they need.

  8. Wow, what happened here? Did someone add truth serum to the troll factory water supply? It is interesting that the bottom layer, most obvious trolls were affected and came clean first. But something is telling me it will spread to higher levels where less obvious trolls live. Those trolls don’t like to be exposed but truth serum will get to them eventually.
