Advice and motivation from Elon Musk

There are some videos of business advice and motivation from Elon Musk and a transcript of a commencement speech Elon gave.

1. If you want to start a company, you need to work super hard.

So what is super hard mean? 7 days a week for 80-100 hours a week for a year. This is how Elon started out.

2. if you’re creating a company, or if you’re joining a company, the most important thing is to attract great people

3. Focus on signal over noise. A lot of companies get confused. They spend a lot of money on things that don’t actually make the product better.

For any given company, keep thinking about, “Are, these efforts that people are expending, are they resulting in a better product or service?”
And if they’re not, stop those efforts.

4. Don’t just follow the trend.

It’s good to thinking terms of the physics approach, the first principles.
With is, rather than reasoning by analogy, you boil things down to the most fundamental truths you can imagine, and then you reason up from there.

Decide to be Extraordinary

Think beyond the normal stuff. But still be practical and pay the bills. But have the long term big objective.

Don’t be afraid to fail, but be rooted in reality.
Do not fool yourself and think something is working when it is not.
Do not get fixated on a bad solution.

Do things differently that are better.

  1. Trump water and steaks – must have required far less than 40 hours a week. Trump University maybe 30 hours a week.

    • What’s the ratio of startups akin to those, that RoI like Trump’s instance vs. don’t “succeed” as much. Then likewise the ratio of startups true to Musk’s guidelines that succeed vs don’t.

Being a toxic waste eating profiteering alien from planet Trump is not the social prestige and material success that Musk is encouraging.

  2. Thanks for this great post!! This can really help put yourself in the right direction and increase your focus.
I would personally also add that it’s not only important to work hard, but also to work SMART, but hey that’s my opinion.
There’s something I’ve also tried for the slightly over a year and not only has it improved my life by leaps and bounds, it’s incredibly easy to do.
I’ve confident it will be of tremendous help and value to anyone that tries it. You can check out the link here. https://tinyurl.com/y9olmxm5

  3. Gotta say I’ve seen lots of people make their businesses work with only 60hrs/week. I don;t know any who made theirs work only doing 40.
