Earlier in the year we had major forest fires in BC causing poor air quality over large areas. That image might be from when there was a forest or grass fire near the place the air quality was measured. That red flag looks to be in southern Manitoba or Saskatchewan, so grass fire is more likely.
at a small guess…forest fires. they are particularly bad for particulate pollution.
