China’s Sanyan Institute of Remote Sensing has a series of satellite launches over the next three years :
* in 2019 they will launch three optical satellites.
* add another three optical satellites, two hyperspectral satellites and two SAR satellites will complete a ten Satellite Constellation Program by 2021
The satellites will provide round-the-clock remote-sensing over the tropical sea area.
Yang Tianliang, director of the institute, said that the network was calculated to broadly cover the area between 30 degrees north and south of the equator.
These satellites will effectively monitor what other countries are doing on many of the South China Sea’s 500 tiny islets and surrounding waters and in the Indian ocean area.
