SpaceX Falcon Heavy success could kill Space Launch System

Nick Ayers, chief of staff for Vice President Mike Pence has tweeted that there are major positive ramifications for the US space industry is this [SpaceX Falcon Heavy] launch goes according to plan.

The SpaceX Falcon Heavy will be able to launch 63.8 tons to low earth orbit. SpaceX will try a first launch on February 6, 2018.

The SpaceX Falcon Heavy would nearly match the launch capacity of the first versions of the Space Launch System which will cost another $4-5 billion over two years on top of the $11 billion already spent to get to a first launch.
