US Navy wants to buy two aircraft carriers at a time to save $1.25 billion for each

The US Navy wants to have contract for two aircraft carriers at time to potentially save $1.25 billion for each and get a new carrier every 3 to 4 years instead of every 5 years.

* five percent cost savings from buying components for two ships at once.
* smart acquisition measures and other efficiencies could bring another 5% savings

The ship builder has been requested to confirm what kind of savings are possible from doubling up contracts.
