China getting 300 new light tanks for its marines

The Chinese PLA Marine Corps (PLAMC), part of the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN), appears to have a new lightweight battle tank called the ZTQ-15. Each PLAMC brigade is divided up into one armored regiment and two marine battalions.

China already had a 43 ton the ZTZ-96A tank. The ZTQ reportedly will weigh about 25 to 35 tons.

China will procure 300 ZTQ tanks.

China will have 89 amphibious landing ships by the end of 2019, including five Type 071 Yuzhao-class amphibious warfare ships and up to two bigger Type 081 Xisha-class landing helicopter docks (LHD), large multipurpose amphibious assault ships.

  1. It’s not what they have but how they’ll use what they have. I point to the artificial islands in the South China Sea as evidence they’ll be using them in a problematic manner.
