  1. Boo for no email only login choice. Some of us don’t want to link to a social media account. There’s also some odd Vuukle connectivity going, noting some connections to russia and to alicdn, the CDN for the cloud provider AlibabaCloud in china. You might be logging in via OAuth, but OAuth security isn’t exactly complete, so make sure you use a sacrificial account. The third major loss of past comments is pretty harsh though.

  3. as long as other users can’t delete your posts, I’m fine with the switch. you can’t know how much that squashes debate and drives people away from this site.

  4. I realize this is just crazy talk, but have you ever given any thought to discussing these huge changes to the site with your audience BEFORE implementing them? Maybe putting up a test version of the updated site, to see how things work, before killing off the prior version? You might think about that, if you still have an audience by the time you get in the mood to do this sort of thing again. A lot of the value of the site is (was?) in informed comments. This is twice now you’ve flushed that value down the toilet.

  7. Oh that’s tricky, the comment when posted still shows the URL, but if you do a full refresh, it disappears…

  8. Ok, add URL removal to that list. This site has a lot of discussions with links to source material. URL link support is a must.

  9. Hi, it looks like you’re on the vuukle team? Apart from the old comments, mobile version, and other issues mentioned here, the most pressing issue is lack of an option to subscribe to a comment thread. Other lesser annoyances, off the top of my head: – Sort order isn’t remembered across threads. – Sort order choice only applies to the top level. It should be recursive. – No edit option. – Formatting support? At least, square formatting tags don’t seem to work. Haven’t tried HTML yet..

  10. Go to vuukle.com -> sign in -> forgot password. That’ll let you enter a password so you can log in without a social network. Then go to your profile settings and you can change the user name and icon there. I’m guessing that when you log in with a social network account, that might overwrite those settings by copying from the social network account.

  11. Hi Brett, yes its very easy. We are trying hard to get the old comments from the previous commenting service. Vuukle auto backs up comments to the publishers database so in the event they want to move they don’t suffer any loss of data. All major platforms should follow this in my opinion.

  12. Hi Asteroza, we do provide options for only email login which is upto the publisher. We are trying to extract the previous comments and will upload it as soon as we get access from the previous comment system. Regarding connectivity, we dont use any of the CDNs mentioned above, if you can provide us with any screenshots or information we can get our team to look into it. Our email is support [at] vuukle dot com

  17. Looks like if you include a link Vuukle thinks your comment is spam and puts it into auto-moderation. I rate the chances of Brian getting around to removing it from moderation somewhere between slim and none.I’ve been over at the Vuukle website and there’s absolutely no mention of a way to put links into comments. Or how to format comments. Lots of bells and whistles for Brian basic text with AI censor for us. To say the least I am not thrilled. What’s the opposite of thrilled? Whatever it is that’s what I am.

  18. Wait my name is the nextbigfuture website now? Hm. Okay that is hilarious, but really can’t leave it that way.

  19. Hi Ravi, glad you’re on here. Please add a user block feature. The easiest way for a user to avoid toxic comments is for them to add the makers of toxic comments to a personal blocklist.

  22. Hi Moriarti, We do allow publishers to add emails in their block list. Users also have an option to flag a comment if they feel it needs to be reported.

  23. Hi Michael. Thanks for your suggestions. I have filed these as feature/bug requests. They should go live in the next few sprints.

  26. Switching to Vuukle ? Hmmm . Better think this one through. Vuukle really sucks, and people will migrate away from your site as a result.

  28. Still can’t see comments on mobile version, have to switch to classic or desktop for that. If you really want speed, maybe you can get rid of the autoplaying videos.

  30. Of course most of them will be lost. While in principle porting comments from one system to another ought to be feasible, what motive does one commenting system company have for assisting in the transition to a competitor? They’d really prefer that you be locked in.

  32. Pleased with it so far. Last attempts at comment systems had major problems for me. I’d sign up but then they would be glitchy and wouldn’t post my comments. Hopefully this one does the job it’s supposed to without a hitch. Really tired of all the problematic commenting systems out there.

  34. By the way most of the old comment were lost already when flip-flopping between livejournal and solidopinion, with it a good chunk of the value of this website. I doubt this change won’t result in losses either.

  36. Again… Sigh… Even login with Google doesn’t work. Of course there’s no option to subscribe to a comments section. I wonder if there are any e-mail notifications at all.

  38. I think I’m done donating my insight to this site. I’ve put a lot of effort into comments that are better written then the primary content of this site and they get wiped every 90 days when the comment system changes. I never had any problems with the site loading slowly so long as I close the page occasionally and use an ad blocker… It was fun while it lasted. You may now post nuclear nonsense without challenge.

  40. not another comment change. 1) They don’t work on mobile 2) What’s with the silly emoji? Make the site look cheap like buzzfeed 3) Mobile site has SOOOO many ads. Please remove some or I will have to use an an blocker browser. 4) Why can’t you use disqus like 90% of other sites?

  42. If no a**hole can buy the power to edit and remove our comments, I’ll take a more limited character count gladly.

  48. Let me endorse the consensus: Those emojis make the site look fundamentally unserious. If you can’t get rid of them, at least shrink them down.

  50. I think part of the reason the site is loading so much faster is that the articles beneath the article you’re reading aren’t set to auto-load anymore. Hurrah! That was always a stupid feature. Albeit not as stupid as having the comment box critiquing my tone. That’s going to be really annoying, I can tell.

  52. I don’t see an edit option.. did you mean to write “can’t edit”? Well, I suppose it’ll be sorted out sooner or later. At least the design is appealing and it seems more responsive than SolidOpinion, at least for now.

  54. Not thrilled by the frequent comment system changes, but ok… created yet another account. Now, how do I subscribe to a comment thread?

  56. Speed isn’t everything, but this site was slowing to the point where it was practically unuseable for some people. But I don’t think SolidOpinion was responsible for that. Brian just adds too many bells and whistles to the site, instead of having a nice, clean design. IMO, what he really needs to do is police the ads better; I keep running into malware dispensing ads when I visit without an adblocker. You can’t expect people to not use adblockers if you don’t control that sort of thing.

  58. Oh and it looks like you can edit a posting. Also, Goat Guy is really going to love that little 3000 character counter fading to zero as he tries in vain to post equations proving his point. Brian, is speed everything???
