Russia will widely deploy longer range hypersonic mach 6 missile

Russia claims that will soon put a new hypersonic mach 6 Vympel R-37M air-to-air missile onto its fighter planes.

The claimed specifications are
* a range of 188 miles
* 132 lbs of explosives in the warhead
* speeds of up to Mach 6.

This missile would be 50% faster and have 60% more range than the US Raytheon AIM-120 air-to-air missile. AIM-12 has a speed of Mach 4 and a range of only about 110 miles.

Russia plans to put the new hypersonic missile onto most of their fighters. Su-30, Su-35, Su-57 and MiG-31 would all get the new missile.

A european Meteor missile is mach 4+ but currently is only used on the Saab JAS-39 Gripen fighter. It will not work with the F-35 until 2024 or later.
