Academics have controversial proposal for a tax to fund incentives for larger Chinese families

Academics proposed a tax on all working adults aged under 40 in China and the money would go to a Reproduction Fund to reward families who have more than one child.

In the first six months of 2018, the number of births in mainland China fell by 15 to 20% in many provinces from 2017. In 2017, 17.58 million babies were born which was down 630,000 from 2016.

The idea has also drawn criticism from the public, and even from state media. State broadcaster CCTV called the proposal “absurd” in an editorial on its website on Friday.

  1. Academics proposed a tax on all working adults aged under 40 in China and the money would go to a Reproduction Fund to reward families who have more than one child.” We have that in America. Childless people pay taxes that subsidize the reproductive choices of others — in the form of public schools, mostly. Usually that is paid via property taxes (for the schools) but also income tax dependent deductions/credits. This is why we need flat income tax rates and user-fee financed school systems. And none of you lîbtårds responding should try to claim that I owe it to society or whatever BS you use to justify the current state of affairs. BS.

  3. Maybe the Chinese government should butt out of it’s citizen’s reproductive business. The current demographic “problem” is a result of the government’s last great reproductive interference, the one child initiative. This further intrusion will just have more unintended consequences. Let people decide how many children they will have, just make sure they know they will have to support, and educate them. Here’s some good advice for the PRC politburo. Worry about protecting your citizens from external threats, property crime, and violent crime. Allow them to make their own economic decisions unhindered, with the exception of using force, or fraud. Don’t worry so much about “disorder”, either economic, or political. The people are the ones that will decide the level of order that is desirable. You can’t tell what disorderly person might be the next Tesla, or Einstein. Committees are extraordinarily poor at judging the creations/innovations of extraordinary people.

  5. There are lots and lots of Chinese who still remember the last time of “disorder” a.k.a the Cultural Revolution. They or their friends and family were jailed, beaten, driven from their homes, sent to reeducation. These are of course the older people, but not that old. Anyone born in the early 1960s or before. This includes everyone who is a senior government leader, a senior military guy, a senior business leader. You can try telling them to not worry about disorder. They won’t listen.

  7. Sounds like you need to move to Libertarianland, the mythical country that has never existed in the entire history of man on any continent. Or Somalia, where there are no school taxes, road taxes, no functional government, no standing military, where everyone is armed to the teeth, basically a libertarian paradise.

  9. Somalia has had a functioning government for about 15 years or so now. See, you can’t even keep up with the tropes with current information. And before that, it functioned VERY WELL under a form of anarcho-capitalism…thus proving that AC can work.
