In the first six months of 2018, the number of births in mainland China fell by 15 to 20% in many provinces from 2017. In 2017, 17.58 million babies were born which was down 630,000 from 2016.

Maybe the Chinese government should butt out of it’s citizen’s reproductive business. The current demographic “problem” is a result of the government’s last great reproductive interference, the one child initiative. This further intrusion will just have more unintended consequences. Let people decide how many children they will have, just make sure they know they will have to support, and educate them. Here’s some good advice for the PRC politburo. Worry about protecting your citizens from external threats, property crime, and violent crime. Allow them to make their own economic decisions unhindered, with the exception of using force, or fraud. Don’t worry so much about “disorder”, either economic, or political. The people are the ones that will decide the level of order that is desirable. You can’t tell what disorderly person might be the next Tesla, or Einstein. Committees are extraordinarily poor at judging the creations/innovations of extraordinary people.

They or their friends and family were jailed, beaten, driven from their homes, sent to reeducation. These are of course the older people, but not that old. Anyone born in the early 1960s or before. This includes everyone who is a senior government leader, a senior military guy, a senior business leader. You can try telling them to not worry about disorder. They won’t listen.
