Air Force awards Lockheed up to $480 million for air launched hypersonic weapon test

The US Air Force is giving Lockheed Martin a second hypersonic weapon contract. This will be for up to $480 million.

Lockheed is to conduct air-launched rapid response weapon critical design review and test and production readiness support. The work will be performed in Orlando, Florida, and is expected to be completed by Nov. 30, 2021.

Lockheed had received a previous contract for nearly $1 billion by the Air Force to develop an unspecified number of hypersonic weapons.

Lockheed has received over $800 million from NASA to investigate hypersonic spaceplanes.

  1. This is insane, they were already given $135 million, now another $480 million, to build a 30″ length dart that mounts on an icbm body… This is a scam…… pure total scam, and people need to go to jail at this point. China tested boost glide a few months back, costs under $1 million. This makes Lockheed look like amateurs. http://www.ioaircraft.com/hypersonic/tsv20.php

  3. I’m all for the best military in the world but I AM NOT a fan of government waste…this is wasteful spending. With how much money Lockheed as received over the years for hypersonics we (the American people) should have an operational hyspersonic fighter/bomber.

  4. I don’t know if you know how contracts work, but you don’t give a company a couple hundred million to research hypersonics and then just randomly receive an order of dozens of hypersonic fighters. You have to actually contract them to build a hypersonic fighter, which has never happened.
