China has new Navy 055 destroyer than might be better than the US Arleigh Burke Destroyer but is not better than the Zumwalt. China is currently only planning to build eight 055 destroyers.
China will likely have new destroyers and cruisers that have integrated electrical power systems. The US Zumwalt has integrated electric power systems. Integrated electrical power makes nearly the full engine power available for power new combat lasers and railguns. Current ships only have about 5% of the power available for powering electrical gear.
The US has 192 F-22 and hundreds of F-35s.
China will likely take until 2030 to 2040 to more broadly match the best US equipment and to match or exceed the numbers of the best US gear.

Still waiting on the mythical WS-15 engine. China cannot build a reliable jet engine yet, I am highly doubtful that they will build an engine for the J-20 that can match anything from P&W. Every plane in China uses US or UK (commercially) or Russian (military) engines. The manufacturing techniques and alloys for building a turbofan jet engine are highly guarded secrets.

Ships = big floating targets. Bigger the boat the easier to target. US should focus of underseas boats. Many many of them. What make me wonder is the simple math. US spends 2+ what Russian and China combine does on defense. Yet it seems we play catch up in so many area. Somebody explain that to me.

I Believe China Already Has The Techno Capability To Match The US, May Be Lagging Only In Numbers

Under UNCLOS China is allowed to claim any island overseas that is uninhabited Under UNCLOS any uninhabited island can be claimed by the first country to claim it, first come first serve This is why the US was allowed to claim the virgin islands, and the British were able to claim the Falklands, Norway was able to claim Bouvet Island, Britain was able to claim Bermuda China has claimed these islands under the Qing and Ming Dynasty, they were the first ones there and the first country to file claims Legally these islands belong to China

Not according to U.N. Convention on the Law of the Seas (which China signed) and the rest of the world. Claiming something and having a legitimate right to it are two different things. Prisons are full of people who cannot tell the difference, or can and do not care.

You do realize that China has been claiming this area since the Qing dynasty. Hardly stealing, their claim to this area is legitimate.

Its not useful, stealth isn’t magic it merely makes a fighter jet look like a ping pong ball or a mosquito. From a long distance you can’t really see it, but as you get closer it starts to look like a mosquito, then like a ping pong ball. The zumwalt’s stealth merely makes it look like the size of a fishing boat, so If the enemy decides to sink everything that looks like a fishing boat it gets hit. If the Zumwalt hides in a fleet of fishing boats without stealth it may be able to hide. The Zumwalt is intended to be a shore attack weapon, theoretically its big guns and stealth would allow it to outrange shore batteries. The Zumwalt was intended to bombard the shores using a railgun Against a stealth fighter or even most 4+ gen fighters, the fighter would be able to detect the Zumwalt from a long distance due to its large size and hit it due to its large size and slow speed. Likewise a human vs a mosquito, the mosquito can see the human from 10 meters away visually but the human sees the mosquito at 3 meters. This is how stealth fighters work, they appear as essentially super small planes vs other planes, so they can detect the plane without stealth at a farther distance. By the way type 055 claims a radar range of 600 KM and has weapons 600km The Burke has Aegis to defend itself from fighters, the Zumwalt doesn’t

I would ordinarily cheer China on with building new weapons systems because it gives us a measure for us to perform against. Considering their S. China Sea militarization and constant talk of “replacing” us as a superpower, while stealing territory and resources from their neighbor countries instead of fitting into the current system, it is hard to wish China success. I guess China has the same problem we have, where good hard working smart people are stuck with really poor political leadership. The old saying “Democracy is the worst form of government ever invented, except for everything else” still holds true in my opinion. At least we can get rid of our political leadership if they get too out of line without bloodshed or waiting for the current leadership to die of old age.

By no means knowledgeable about naval warfare, but I’m not convinced that stealth isn’t useful for a ship. Obviously you can detect a ship at 10 km, no matter how stealthy it is. But if you can detect (and get enough data to get range, bearing, speed and ID) one ship at 300 km, and another ship at 100 km, then surely this lets the second ship do all sorts of things that the first ship can’t manage? Especially if the missiles have a 150 km range.

Qualitatively tell me how Zumwalt is a better combat platform then the Arleigh Burke… Stealth doesn’t really matter with an 800′ ship.
