Japan’s newly revealed Railgun compared to China and US Railguns

Japan joins a growing list of countries with active railgun programs. Japan’s railgun is shown in the lab. It seems to be a fairly large railgun at about the level shown by the USA about 8 years ago.

Japan’s electromagnetic railgun weapons system may be used on next-generation destroyers like the Type 27DD.

China is currently in the lead with a railgun deployed to a Navy combat ship.

The US has a large land-based railgun that is being test fired. The US is trying to increase the rate of fire and enabling the system to withstand hundreds of shots.

  1. And lets not kid ourselves. The Thing is made to be mounted on the Giant Mecha they are simply waiting for the beast they have detected underwater to erupt from the center of Tokyo harbour and start knocking down buildings.

  3. This feels like Jimmy Carter leaking info about the B-2 bomber to show he “cared about defense” as a political move, which incidentally didn’t help him win a re-election but gave the USSR a bit of a heart attack. I suppose the japanese defense hawks and ultranationalist nippon kaigi right wingers needed placating or something? Plus, why does everybody use that chinese railgun picture with the image defect artifacts around the turret front lower half? Is that the only one without a really annoying watermark?
