  1. Now if they only had twice as many workers working on twice as many production lines in twice as much factory space they could build 10,000 Model 3s a week too! I think you get the picture…

  2. Panasonic speeding battery production with 3 new production lines soon. If tesla add another prod. line in a tent I think they can get to 10K cars a week easy enough.

  4. I suspect working a line in a tent in the winter is going to be one ugly experience. Also, I think it’s at minimum two more lines are needed and more likely three since it took three lines to pull off 5K cars/week.

  5. We’ll see… maybe yes, maybe no… I have my doubts about them actually having any of the things identified as necessary above to pull it off with the possible exception of the production lines which are on order (but where are they going to put them and who will work on them???) I suspect this is yet another case of Tesla over committing. I know you are a big fan of Tesla and I wish them well but I’m also a realist.

  6. Panasonic wants to help Tesla boost battery pack production The battery cell manufacturer will install three more lines in Tesla’s Reno, Nevada, Gigafactory to help bump pack production. Tesla’s Gigafactory 1 outside Reno, Nevada, is going gangbusters to make enough battery packs to satisfy the demand for the company’s electric cars, but it’s only barely keeping up. However, according to Bloomberg, Tesla’s battery partner Panasonic thinks it can swoop in and help boost production to a combined 35 gigawatt-hours to help eliminate that bottleneck.

  11. Where did you get the idea they can’t sell the car at $35k? Backlog is steady despite deliveries and cancellations. ” That exclusivity has been their greatest asset.

  12. Since they can’t sell a car at 35K they will eventually run out of buyers. It might be wiser to limit builds to always be below demand. That exclusivity has been their greatest asset.

  15. because they lose money @ 35K. Sure they can sell all they can make but they need to sell the car for around 50k to make ,money

  17. Zac Palmer: Tesla is selling every Model 3 it can screw together. Astonishingly, it’s selling so many of them that the Model 3 outsold every BMW passenger car combined. We should note that BMW still leads if you include SUV sales, but beating the Germans at passenger cars is no small feat.

  19. They can sell Model 3 for 75K (performance one) and they can sell roadster for 250K. They are outselling BMW 4 to 1 in the US already.

  21. Is this 10k per week without impacting the other lines; X and S? Tesla sacrificed the other lines to hit Model 3 numbers. What about the 300 fewer spot welds they decided to remove in order to hit the 5k level? Cutting corners on your build quality while real competition from the Big Three, Audi, BMW is just around the corner. Sounds like Musk. Lies and subsidies are all that make Tesla work. And yes, I’m a Musk hater. He’s an admitted socialist and corporate welfare baby, not a genius as some claim. https://qz.com/1318948/tesla-is-breaking-its-model-3-designs-to-get-cars-out-the-door/

  39. ” I suspect working a line in a tent in the winter is going to be one ugly experience. ” <-- They are in central California, they average only 15 degree swings season to season. " it took three lines to pull off 5K cars/week " <-- And you think you have reason to believe their improvement per line has topped out because?

  40. Where did you get the idea they can’t sell the car at $35k? Backlog is steady despite deliveries and cancellations.

” That exclusivity has been their greatest asset. ” <-- For the Roadster maybe. Their greatest asset now is they are selling a car that has a lower lifetime cost of ownership than a similarly priced gasoline car.
