Yusaku Maezawa is the Billionaire who will flyaround the moon- Nextbigfuture had him favored

Nextbigfuture wrote two days ago that its favorite pick of Japanese Billionaries was Yusaku Maezawa.

SpaceX just announced he was the one who would be the SpaceX BFR tourist who will fly around the moon.

Lasting about a week, the journey will come as close as 125 miles to the Moon’s surface before completing lunar transit and returning back to Earth.

The first private passenger to fly around the Moon aboard BFR is fashion innovator and globally recognized art curator Yusaku Maezawa.

Yusaku Maezawa founded Japan’s largest online fashion mall, Zozotown and is worth $3 billion. He is 42 and spent $110 million on a painting.

Here was the 2017 Forbes article about spending $110 million on a painting.

Yusaku is rich, young and is willing to spend a lot of his money on his own interests. Yusaku is my personal top pick.

Charles Simonyi and Dennis Tito both flew to orbit when they were 61 years old. This flight will not be for 5-6 years.

The most likely candidates are those younger than 60 or an exceptionally healthy person up to 70 years old. The person should not have a role where if they went to space their business interests would be at risk. They should not have large shareholders or a board who would veto a trip. Although they could retire or step down between now and the trip. This rules out even more of the older billionaires.

Yusaku was my top pick two days ago because of his youth, wealth, looseness with money and adventurousness.

SpaceX’s next-generation vehicle—BFR—will be the most powerful rocket in history, capable of carrying humans to the Moon, Mars, and beyond.

  1. Imagine if he’d spent that money on more spaceflight-related pursuits. $110M can pay for a lot of engineering. I’ve seen that painting and it looks like garbage.
