Boring Company to have $16B value after Chicago Airport tunnel completes

Boring Company will show a two-mile tunnel in LA in December and has started work on an 18 mile tunnel in Chicago from downtown to the airport. Successfully completing the airport tunnel will make the tunneling company worth as much as $16 billion. This valuation will be before any full speed hyperloop implementation.

In June 2018, Boring Company was selected as the contractor for a high-speed downtown-O’Hare transport line. A Berenberg analyst has stated that the Boring Co. could be worth as much as $16 billion if it completes the project.

The $16 billion estimate for the Boring Company’s potential valuation was taken from the figures of the Channel Tunnel project, which connects England and France. This will add to the total valuation of Tesla. The electric car and energy company will be a key supplier for the high-speed transport line.

Tesla would be designing and manufacturing the Boring Company’s pods for the downtown Chicago-O’Hare transport line.

Musk said 18-mile high-speed tunnel would cost ~$1 billion to build. The Boring Co.’s pods are designed to carry 16 passengers at a time. They will make the 18-mile trip in 12 minutes at half the price of Uber or a cab.

December 10 reveal of two-mile tunnel in LA

Boring Company has completed a two-mile tunnel in LA and they are working on a huge garage elevator. Car elevators are usually 20 feet long, but the elevator for the LA tunnel will be larger. The elevator will be used for trucks and SUVs and construction equipment.

  1. Tesla won’t share in Boring’s profits unless Mr Musk charitably donates profits from Boring to Tesla. So… no.

  3. Maybe in the long-long-long run, but not any time soon. In the meantime, I wonder if this is too much distraction for Tesla, already working on self-driving car technology, electric trucks, and bringing down the price of their bread-and-butter models for the upcoming competition with mainstream car companies going electric (I’m sure I’ve missed something). It’s not like they’ve shown they can easily meet the deadlines they already have.

  4. He tweeted over the summer that he wanted to do so, and had the financing (from a Saudi) to do so. Then that deal apparently fell thru, it was no more than a verbal agreement if that, so the SEC fined him $40 million for making unbacked claims that affected the price of his stock, and he agreed to step down as CEO, although he’s still chairman of the board (going by memory here, one or more details may be wrong).

  5. YouTube has videos about the Boring Company (BC). In a one hour talk, Musk and another guy (who’s name I forget) that is the chief officer at the BC, describe the process in detail. They transferred a contingent of engineers from SpaceX to BC and improved a number of processes, too many to discuss here. Interesting talk and worth the view.

  6. I haven’t seen anything reported so probably still using stock machines. Their stated goal is to go faster by utilizing more power and tunneling and cementing the wall at the same time rather than dividing time between the two.

  7. But the “pods” will be a small part of the project. And the article was talking about a 16 billion dollar valuation, which would have nothing to do with Tesla or Tesla’s valuation.

  10. It seems that once Elon Musk gets it his head to do somthing he usually goes to extremes to do it. He has publicly stated he wants to take tesla private again and the FCC has given him even more incentive to do it. Perhaps the boring company will supply financing so he can do it.

  11. They are going to supply the pods to travel in the tunnel. Did you not read the article above?
