China space program will get busy with moon missions and a space station

China space program has several moon missions over the next few years, a three-module space station by 2022, robotic mission to Mars and more.

China will help launch Pakistani astronauts in 2022.

China will try to land a robot rover mission to the dark side of the moon. Chang’e 4 mission will set up an experimental lunar base to trial growing potatoes for food. Chang’e 4 is to be launched in December 2018. It will have an orbiter, a robotic lander and rover. It was originally planned for a 2015 launch.

A Long March 3B rocket will launch it.

Orbiter: 425 kg
Lander: 1,200 kg
Rover: 120 kg

Landing mass Total: ~1,200 kg; rover: 120 kg

The relay satellite has a mass of 425 kg, and it will use a 4.2-meter antenna to receive X band signals from the lander and rover, and relay them to Earth control on the S band.

The proposed landing site is the crater Von KΓ‘rmΓ‘n (180 km diameter) in the South Pole-Aitken Basin on the far side of the Moon. The crater contains about 10% by weight iron oxide (FeO) and 4-5 parts per million of thorium. Thorium can replacement for uranium as nuclear fuel.

Chang’e 5 is a robotic Chinese lunar exploration mission currently under development. It is targeting a Moon landing in 2019. It was delayed from a 2017 launch. Chang’e 5 will be China’s first sample return mission, aiming to return at least 2 kilograms of lunar soil and rock samples back to the Earth.

Chang’e 6 is an unmanned Chinese lunar exploration mission currently speculated to be under development, which is expected to land on the Moon in 2024. Chang’e 6 will be China’s second sample return mission.

China was making preliminary preparations for a manned lunar landing mission around 2036. China wants to use robots to build a permanent base ahead of a manned mission.

By 2020, China will land a robot mission on Mars.

By 2022, Chinese will have a space station that is one-fifth the mass of the International Space Station. It will be about the size of the decommissioned Russian Mir space station. The Chinese station will weigh about 80 to 100 metric tons. The Tianhe-1 core module will launch in 2020.

China is working on building a space-based solar power array.

China will revamp its rockets. They will develop a heavy-lift rocket and reusable rockets.

  1. Maybe this will cure NASA’s conviction that they have all the time in the world to do stuff. It’s a space race, again.Well, it was always a race, but having a visible opponent helps. That the visible opponent is ideologically hostile and expansionary helps a lot. This isn’t just about the science. It’s about what culture owns the future.

  2. And the stream of space junk from China continues. They keep trying (to steal tech) so you can give them that.

  3. China will revamp its rockets. They will develop a heavy-lift rocket and reusable rockets.”Source on this? Last I heard (several months ago) was that they were skeptical and might consider reusability for 2030’s. I don’t see a link in the text body.

  4. China will have to develop their aerospace projects on their own. Unfortunately, China has shown that they are willing to steal other peoples technology. This will keep other countries from working with them in space.

  5. What we need is an economical reason to go to the moon. A low flying mineral prospector and mapper is what the Chinese should focus on.

  6. Not likely there are numerous differences1. There are literally millions of foreigners who work in China, visit china who are able to go anywhere they want and talk to whoever they want. You could fly to China, buy a rail ticket and go anywhere, rent a car or bike and go anywhereIn contrast the Soviet Union was a black box, the few foreigners that were allowed in were only allowed to travel to certain areas. 2. The internet and satellites, smartphones, these technologies allow information to be exchanged that keeping a massive economic lie is impossible 3. Imports and Exports – China is the worlds largest exporter, the USSR on the other hand barely had any foreign trade in fact the USSR exported less than SPAIN!4. The big 4 (big 6) – The big 4 accounting firms are called the big 4, because every major company uses them to do their taxes and financial audits The 6 biggest firms are all US and European, and roughly 80% of all income made by Chinese companies have their accounting done with the big 6So white people are literally in charge of doing the taxes for basically all Chinese companies, and they are doing the financial audits Companies like Huawei, Alibaba, baidu, cambricon etc… all have their accounting done by white people Why? because the big 6 has a monopoly Nobody wants to do business or business deals with the next Enron, companies do business with each other through purchase orders that are basically promises to render payment in the future Having a big 6 firm doing your accounting automatically lends credibility to a company. It means that your numbers look good. This is why 6 firms do basically all of the accounting for the ENTIRE WORLD And this was also why Enron was able to fool so many people, they used a big 4 firm that is now no longer a big 4 firm after the Enron scandal, after it was discovered that they covered up for Enron they lost all their clientele and went bankrupt, they went from billion dollar revenue’s to ZERO overnight Accounting is all about reputation, a accounting firm provides credibility while keeping client companies privacy. 5. Tech – China is dominating 30% of all science fields, the USSR was barely keeping up in space technology 6. Foreign ownership – Many Chinese companies have foreign ownership one of the largest shareholders for Alibaba is Yahoo, one of the largest shareholders for BYD is Warren buffet So a USSR collapse where everything was fake to begin with has a 0% possibility of happeningThere are many people who make a living in finance and your idea would be laughed at by any finance professionalStick to talking about sex tourism, because you are way out of your element

  8. “No nothing the USSR did was comparable, in hindsight the USSR was a massive failure “That’s what I said. They were thought an economic powerhouse until, one day, the house of cards fell, and they stood revealed as a massive failure. I am, frankly, expecting the same of China. A massively corrupt command economy and a totalitarian state, *just like the USSR*. The USSR, too, managed to accomplish some amazing things, command economies are like that: They can pick a few goals and throw irrationally large amounts of resources at them, because they don’t really care if there’s a toilet paper shortage and people have to use leaves, or whatever. But what totalitarian states with command economies can’t do, is keep it up. Eventually the house of cards collapses. And it will for China, too. I hope as peacefully as it did for the USSR.

  9. No nothing the USSR did was comparable, in hindsight the USSR was a massive failure Russia had so much natural resources per capita, they had a population of 100 million with a landmass what? 3 times the size of the US? Every person not only had a giant chunk of land filled with loads of raw materials like iron, oil, gold etc…. Yet Russia failed to develop any semblance of a sustainable economy, and to this day most of what they have done is simply export raw materials. Hey if you gave me a forest, I could become a millionaire just by taking payments from a logging company to cut down and replant my trees, and I have created jobs for thousands of peopleI could sit on my ass and in a couple of decades have a total net worth of 100 million But nowhere is this the same as developing a brand new technology, creating a company that sells that technology to others and employing thousands. And this is why China and the CCP is so incredible, they managed to uplift themselves despite having barely any starting capital, having probably the lowest natural resources per person in the world along with India A country that wasn’t born with a ton of natural resources, the only way they can get wealthy is by developing tech >The real test is when they reach where we are, and can’t advance by copyingThey will be the first to exascale supercomputers, at numerous times held fastest supercomputer title, the J-20 handedly defeats both the F-35 and the F-22, Leading the way in photonic quantum computers, building the worlds strongest laser using technology only available to China, is the worlds only provider of KBBF crystals, developed the first and only drug for ebola when every bio company around the world was racing to cure it, worlds longest quantum teleportation, world record for most simultaneously entangled qubits, world first quantum satellite, submarine with the worlds deepest divethe list goes on and on There has been no country that has gone from 3rd world to cutting edge tech post WW2 unassisted other than China South Korea and Taiwan had massive technology transfers, massive economic aid this was intentional to build up these countries and were in unique positions both being parts of a country that underwent a communist war, so the US could claim that capitalism was better during the cold war as the US was fearful of its own communistic revolution and the US knew that these two countries would never pose a threat to the US due to small size Of course having a high IQ, dictatorship, and good culture helped

  10. Its not rocket science, imagine if you had 10 million farmers who were barely growing enough food to eat. Mostly because they lacked technology like pesticides, fertilizer, iron tools etc… But there were technologically advanced countries around youThe only way to advance would be to take a bundle of wheat from every starving person, sell the bundle of wheat to the wealthy technologically advanced countries, use the money obtained to send a single person for education. That single person then brings back technology, the farmers can implement so everyone grows more food This is the cold hearted reality, China was able to advance by uplifting certain people and certain areas at the sacrifice of other areas. Likewise in order for a scientist to build a experimental nuclear fusion reactor or do research, the money comes from the pockets of thousands of other people Hence why out of hundreds upon hundreds of 3rd world countries, china was the only one to break free by rejecting democracy. Under democracy nobody would willingly sacrifice themselves for the greater good, why should we pay taxes when our people are starving to build a physics lab in Beijing? is the common thought and under a democracy the physics lab ends up never getting built. For developed countries it is the exception, we are so wealthy that we don’t really mind the government tossing a few billion away on science This was also why in the past like say ancient rome, the people that invented everything were wealthy people who had the ability to get education and were clothed and fed. Said scientist never produced a physical good in his life but consumed physical goods made by others to reach the position to be able to invent

  14. 10 million people need to starve for 1 to succeed and uplift the others” Wow, just wow… What kind of perverted thinking made that statement possible? πŸ™

  15. Von Braun and other rocket engineers went quite out of their way to surrender to the US. The Russians had taken what Germany had done, shall we say, quite personally. And they knew it.

  16. Completely untrue, no country has replicated China’s economic growth completely unaided and actively hampered and slowed down by foreign powers post WW2 “The USSR did just as well until the house of cards collapsed, and it turned out to be a Potemkin economy.Look, even taking China’s numbers at face value, (Which would be a very foolish thing to do with numbers coming out of a police state.) you’d be comparing the speed of somebody breaking a trail, with the speed of somebody sprinting behind them along the broken trail. The Chinese could toil away for a thousand years working in sweatshops yet never produce enough to pay back the interest. Hong Kongs economics growth came from being a tax haven, but they never developed any technology or worthwhile companies to speak of Hong Kong became rich because of no income taxes, so rich people parked all their money there similar to Ireland, Singapore etc.. South Korea and Taiwan did not go through the same process, the US literally handed over all of its advanced technologies to these countries Meanwhile under Mao in the 1950’s China did not even have the ability to make steel they were making pig iron in their backyards South Korea, Taiwan? We built steel factories there using modern technology and we gave it to them free of charge and taught them how to run it to produce steelLook it up, Not only did the US give billions of economic aid over decades we sent our most advanced manufacturing technologies to these countries.

  18. China will revamp its rockets. They will simultaneously make a super heavy lift non reusable long march, a reusable long march, and hypersonic reusable rockets.Just like they are simultaneously developing molten salt nuclear reactors, fast reactors, light water reactors, district heating reactors, sodium cooled reactors…When you print money might as well fund everything.

  19. Werner Von Braun was a Nazi whom America STOLE from Germany to create NASA….”If it was stealing then either America or the Russians were going to steal him.Cry me a river.

  20. Of course they’re as smart as us, maybe smarter. They’re just handicapped by a horrific form of government. (Which must, at almost any cost, not inherit the future.)But they ARE handicapped by a horrific form of government, (Which those kids from Hong Kong weren’t living under at the time, remember.) and that does make a big difference.I have no doubt that if the US had the Chinese government, we’d be a third world country soon enough. If we had Hong Kong’s former government, we’d have colonies on the planets by now. Even now, the horror of what Thatcher did to the residents of Hong Kong can enrage me. Not just giving China the land, but taking their passports away so they couldn’t leave ahead of the takeover. What a monstrous thing to have done to those people!
