Drones with rocket propelled grenades and anti-tank weapons

There are many new drones (including improvised drones) with grenade launchers, rocket-propelled grenades and anti-tank weapons.

  1. For surveillance drones might be useful as long as they are small and quiet. For killing people they need to swift and powerful like the Predator. Most drones are just toys, not useful at all.

  3. Pilots are also a big investments. A missile is a one kill. A A-10 like unmanned jet can loiter and kill multiple targets. And without a pilot it can be cheaper even if it is only by 10%. A small A-10 unit to kill enemy soldiers can be a lot cheaper. A single small turbo fan, wings and a machine gun plus the sensors for finding the targets. With mass production it could be made cheaply.

  7. You dont see drones because you lack imagination, apart from everyhting else, as other topics where you say anything show. Autonomus AI controlled drones operatnig in cooperative swarms are the future of battlefields in all aspects. Right now they are like first attempts at cars-crude, not that useful, expensive, sluggish, easy to break etc. Technology howevr has enormous potential and it is inevitbale that it will develop.

  10. Anything with the capabilities of a A-10 will cost far more than a A-10. Most reaper drones cost around 30mil. They usually don’t count all the control computers and such they have to buy and the support cost. Without these I think its 16-17 mil. The truth is when you look at modern aircraft programming is becoming a MASSIVE problem and massive cost. So doesn’t really look good for “cheap” super performing aircraft. The problem is that missiles use the same technology as a aircraft….so if a fighter can be made to think all that missile has to think is “Kill” AND is far more maneuverable. Hell there have been Missiles that think and act as a swarm for DECADES.

  12. I don’t see drones because they are too slow and vulnerable. What I would like is two unmanned version of the A-10. One with the same Gatling gun as the current A-10 to search and destroy tanks, trucks, and other vehicles. The other should be much smaller armed with a machine gun. It would fly fast and low over the battle fields spraying fire. They should be design to be tough and cheap and to carry a lot of ammo.

  14. This isn’t very news worth. Anything carried by a human can eventually be mated to a flying platform. Anyone remember the drone with the mounted machine gun?

  16. The RPG’s might have some trouble because of the recoil on a light craft, especially if fired repeatedly. The anti tank rockets like LAWS, AT-4’s, TOWS, Dragons etc. should be just fine because there is little to no recoil.
