Future soldiers with metamaterial invisibility and power suits

The US soldier will be getting more advanced technology and more electrical power for those systems over the next 20 years.

Over the next five years the electrical power will double to about 25 watts and then 50 watts in 6-15 years and then 100 watts in 16 years.

Squads will have 200-300 watts.

Platoons are heading to 5 kilowatts.

Soldier armor will get 20-30% lighter and eventually over 60% lighter.

They are deploying far lighter ghillie suits that weigh less than 5 pounds.

Chameleon like camouflage using colorshifting nanotechnology fabrics will be introduced in the next 6-15 years.

Three-dimensional, continuously multidirectional cloaking with metamaterial cloaking will be in the 20+ year timeframe.

Fairly widespread use of partial exoskeletons will be in the 6-15 year timeframe.

System that amplifies the strength, endurance, mobility and lethality of Soldiers are 20+ years away.

  1. Mat… Have idea of less flashy. More protective. Could attack, defend or retreat with my concept armor and make ambush easier. As you would not have to worry about friendly fire being across from you in ambush. Quite possible wouldnt even feel the full hit from the bullet. Would be lightweight and offer no impedement to mobility. Help in aiding people injured in the battlefield and many other defensive capibilities in combat.

  5. If you are a soldier what would you want. You wouldn’t want more weight. What you would like is to be able to detect if there is any enemy soldiers further down the road. You want to know where they are. Maybe small drones that give you an overall view of the battle field. Maybe an enhanced sight and hearing ability. For instance the flare from a rifle shot would show in your eye piece and slowly decay. A device that can track gun fire back to the person who fire. Maybe a gun that would automatically fire back to the location of the persons firing guns. The old exploding bullet is still a good idea. But it should be a standard size round so you don’t need to carry a extra gun. Impossible you say. I say try again and see.

  7. Stirling engine, or thermoelectrics, and a “rocket stove” burning locally available fuels seems obvious to me. Unit also produces hot water for meals, hygiene, and keeping batteries at temperature in cold environment. The rocket stove could also be used for sterilization of water by pressure cooker, which also speeds cooking of meals, and minimizes fuel use.
