NATO European Ops Center 24/7 and rapid deployment

Late in 2017, NATO defense ministers agreed to create two new commands to facilitate the rapid reinforcement of Europe in the event of a conflict with Russia.

NATO has a “4×30” initiative which calls for the alliance to have 30 land battalions, 30 fighter squadrons and 30 ships ready to deploy within 30 days of an alert. NATO is not fully prepared for rapid deployment but is working towards that level of readiness.

  1. Unfortunately, while I would like to agree with your explanation I am afraid it is less complicated than that: They are just a bunch of clueless fools, much like 85% of the German electorate is.

  3. Hahahahaha! ‘NATO’ will never be prepared. Because the Eurotårds say one thing, but do NOT follow through. It’s all EuroBS. THIS is the reality: Report on the Operational Readiness of the Bundeswehr’s Primary Weapons Systems 2017 Number of weapon systems ready for action: Eurofighter Typhoon jet airplanes: 39 of 128 Tornado jet airplanes: 26 of 93 CH-53 transport helicopters: 16 of 72 NH-90 transport helicopters: 13 of 58 Tiger helicopters: 12 of 62 A400M transport planes: 3 of 15 Leopard 2 tanks: 105 of 224 Navy frigates: 5 of 13 And they just conducted military exercises earlier this year where soldiers were issued broomsticks painted in black instead of rifles. And none of this will change. Only 15% of Germans think military spending needs to be raised. They are like Eloi and the Russians are the Morlocks. We Americans? Bystanders. Oh yeah…that’s right. NATO is dead as far as the US getting into a real shooting war is concerned.

  5. It was not Russia that expanded the Warsaw Contract to the borders of the US. It was not Russia that lied to the US about never expanding the Warsaw Contract past the borders of a united Germany. It was not Russia that built a missile “shield” on Cuba. Imperialist nations and their satellites usually end up paying a price for their imperialist actions.

  9. It is NATO bots that only like to see what their propaganda department has released. Invading countries, toppling governments, funding of terrorists, conducting a global misinformantion and propaganda campaign and bullying vassals and competitors alike has people around the world worried about an out-of-control nation that sees itself above all other nations.

  21. But, Germany continues to increase it’s dependence on Russian Gas and Oil. Meanwhile, they are down to 200 MBTs and maybe 65 operatinal jet aircraft. Is Germany going to ask Poland to defend them from Russia?

  23. For which they would be turned into ruins and ashes by the rest of the world in turn, were they to invade their neighbours. So, what’s the gain? This is about long-term strategy, not some vague petty short-term land grabbing which would be gravely punished by the world. They would be erased from the face of Earth, if they invaded their neighbours. The most profitable scenario for all military industrial complexes is to create an unending cold war with immense spending for economic ‘growth’.

  25. The US and their military block have grown out-of-control since the collapse of the Soviet Union. Without a proper counterweight it is not surprising that the situation has developed this way. With the illegal invasion of Iraq, the destruction of Libya , the invasion of Syria, the funding of terrorists, the construction of a first-strike decapitation missile system in eastern Europe, the US coup in Ukraine, the US establishment has lost touch with reality. All these actions by the US did not make the world a safer place. To be honest , if the roles were reversed , Russia would have potentially also taken advantage of the powervacuums.

  29. The US toppled the government of Ukraine in 2014. This move not only violated Ukraine’S sovereignity but also international law. Eastern Ukranians and the people of Crimea have spoken. They rather be with or side with Russia than be under the control of a US installed Anti-Russian regime in Kiev.

  33. Total nonsense. NATO had no role in what happened in Ukraine. But, I recall helpless statements from NATO leaders that there was zero deterrent for continued Russian expansion to the border of Romania. At the time Russian leaders threatened to turn Warsaw into radioactive ash for supporting Ukraine. The existence of a modest deterrent was estimated by Rand Institute as sufficient to prevent aggression under anticipated conditions. Zero deterrent is encouragement of aggression by a military that had recently seen significant modernization and that was itching for trying out its capabilities. Modest deterrent bankrupts no one but keeps the ultra nationalists more calm.

  39. The only coup that took place in 2014 in Ukraine was in Crimea when armed Russian intelligence operatives surrounded the parliament of Crimea and forced a vote on annexation by Russia. In May 2013 a Gallup poll showed that 52% of the population of Crimea favored being an autonomous part of Ukraine with 22% preferring Russia. There was no coup in Kiev. Yanukovych won the 2010 election with a promise of a road to Europe. He negotiated an agreement with the EU in 2013 to make that possible. That agreement was approved by 318 members of 449 delegate parliament in May 2013. As time came to sign the agreement in Vilnius in November Mr. Putin reminded Yanukovych where Ukraine’s gas comes from and convinced / forced Yanukovych to change his mind without consulting the public that he had been leading on the road to Europe. This sudden change to join the Eurasian Union in in stead of the European Union brought hundreds of thousands to the streets. It was not just the protests but the provocations by the government, including the sniper shootings that led to strong opposition and Yanukovych’s departure from Kiev. If a large share of the population of Ukraine caused a coup call it that, but NATO had no role in the matter.

  43. Each and every sovereign country, including Russia, has by definition the right and duty to defend against external meddling in political and economic freedoms. Be it your own country, or any other. I agree with you on a very fundamental level. Painful historical experiences should provide guidance and a certain state of alertness, but should never be basis for baseless panic. Again, what would Russia possibly gain by invading its neighbours? This is the most important question and must be answered. They would risk losing everything for a petty short-term gain of whatever. Don’t have to like the Russians, but they are neither suicidal nor stupid. Geostrategy is conceivably the perhaps most ugly business out there. It plays with the lives of hundreds of millions of humans. Be vigilant, but not fearful. Should the Russians try any funny business, then they will be cast into the Stone Age again within days. They know that.

  47. The U.S. behavior in this matter is quite simple to understand. As the Russians lost the previous cold war by going bankrupt through unsustainable military spending, the were regarded as rightless playthings afterwards and to this day by the victors, the U.S. . For the U.S., Russia is thus the little bîtch that lost and has to accept any kind of actions towards it. It is the loser, you see? Anything goes. The NATO has turned into an aggression alliance, from the sensible peace keeping alliance it once was. The so-called preventive wars that NATO intends to start are newspeak for good old-fashioned aggression wars. You know how it goes in ‘1984’ – war is peace. Reject NATO. They are now devils in angel costumes out to turn the world into ashes for their own profit and power gain, and nothing else.

  49. Zigmund Fraud, it is indeed the military industrial complex that needs ever expanding spending. For anyone interested in how this might play out in worst case – as a little inspiration, there is the famous game series ‘Metal Gear’. The overarching storyline is basically about A.I. being used to control every automatable aspect of society including economics, ending in a never-ending cold war scenario with immense military spending, because the A.I. determined the most effective and profitable form of economics to be the eternal (cold) war and numerous little conflicts constantly depleting the tools of war. As humans have great reproductive ability, large masses of people are constantly killed, and so the eternal cycle goes on. I don’t know how anyone could click on the ‘happy’ button hearing this insane, conflict assuring news. But well, it will only be the stupid middle europeans like me who will have to be slaughtered if a war with Russia is provoked by the ‘West’. The ‘Muricans will cozily watch the massacres on their youtubes and think about how great this ‘justice’ is. By the way, the russian military doctrine clearly states that aggression towards the russian borders in form of military movement can also and will be answered by using nuclear weapons to create a wide radioactive wasteland to make use of infantry and ground forces impossible. The real question is: what could Russia gain if they were to invade the western parts of Europe? The whole world would turn all economic and military centers of Russia into nuclear ashes within days. The risk/reward ratio is infinitely bad. They have ZERO to win by doing this. Let’s not kid ourselves here. The only purpose of these actions is to maximize a cold war potential to maximize military spending. If you want to find the truth, follow the money. Money is all that, in our sad world of today, determines the fate of millions, if not billions.

  51. Why dont you go work for some US/transantlaticist propaganda outlets? I am sure they do not have enough NATO shills in their ranks. To clear things up a bit: Russia reacted to the US-funded and US-organized Anti-Russian coup in Ukraine by supporting eastern Ukranians in the fight against the US installed regime in Kiev and by reuniting with Crimea via a referendum. Anyone that looks at the demographics of Ukraine would not be surprised by the outcome of the referendum and the actions of eastern Ukranians to resist the US installed regime. The US knew exactly what they were doing by supporting the oppostion and violating Ukrainian sovereignity and international law. I wonder, did the Budapest memorandum ever give the US the right to do that ? I would love how some people just leave out some inconvenient facts when it comes to this conflict. Having said that, Russia is no angel in this. Although the US and their vassals escalated this conflict by toppling the government of Ukraine, Russia also screwed up majorily by having eastern Ukranians shoot down that Malaysian airliner. Maybe it is time Russia toppled the government of Mexico and installed an Anti-US regime in its place. Maybe Russia and/or China could install a “missile shield” in Cuba while also returning Guatanomo Naval Base to Cuba via chicanery. I am pretty sure the US would totally OK with that. Nothing is more respectful than installing hostile regimes right at ones border or missile sites that could be used to deliver a decapitation first strike on your nation. The US would be totally ok with that, right ?

Shortly before NATO was sharing significant information with Russia as a partner and Russian officers were being trained in the U.S. in anti-terrorism methods. If there had been credible deterrence in 2013 and some risk to Russia this violation of international law and the security framework of Europe would not have taken place. A nuclear umbrella is no deterrent if it is the only deterrent. Recognizing the reality that Russia saw the total lack of deterrence as an invitation the countries of Europe have opted for a buildup of defensive capabilities to assure the security of Europe.

  74. Europe needs s deterrence against Russia. Russia invaded my country in 1968, it invaded Hungary in 1956 and now Ukraine. Nato is not planning to invade Russia, but we have right to defend ourselves against Russia´s meddling in our political freedoms.

  75. The U.S. behavior in this matter is quite simple to understand.

  77. Why dont you go work for some US/transantlaticist propaganda outlets? I am sure they do not have enough NATO shills in their ranks.

To clear things up a bit:

Russia reacted to the US-funded and US-organized Anti-Russian coup in Ukraine by supporting eastern Ukranians in the fight against the US installed regime in Kiev and by reuniting with Crimea via a referendum.

  78. In 2013 Putin recognizing that NATO had no defensive doctrine against Russian aggression in Europe chose to dismember Ukraine.
