Tesla at 450,000+ cars per year in 2019 and near 1 million in 2022

Elon Musk talked about Tesla reaching 500,000 to 1 million cars per year. Tesla could start producing cars in China in 2019.

Maintaining the third quarter production level would mean 340,000 cars per year. Tesla should have 100,000 cars per year in the fourth quarter which would be 400,000 cars per year annually.

The Model 3 international expansion is pushed to early and mid-2019. The European launch of the Model 3 is expected in the first half of 2019.

Tesla plans to bring portions of Model 3 production to China during 2019.

The Shanghai Gigafactory is planning to produce two models in its first phase project, a Shanghai government filing showed on Wednesday. The new factory, based in eastern China, aims to manufacture Model 3 and Model Y cars, with annual capacity of 250,000 vehicles, according to a filing by the environmental assessment firm conducting a feasibility study for the project.

Tesla said that it expects factory construction to begin in the near future. It will take about two years until they start producing vehicles and another two to three years before the factory is fully ramped up to produce around 500,000 vehicles per year for Chinese customers.

  1. ICE is over, it had a strong century run, but that’s it. Grid electricity will ALWAYS be cheaper than oil. Electric motors will ALWAYS be better than internal combustion engines. The game is over.

  4. Want to know the most disturbing thing of all from the Model 3’s success? It only proves human labor is OBSOLETE. Tesla’s business model is to show the world how profitable they can be with HOW LITTLE HUMAN LABOR! The game is over for human labor, that’s it. We’re on the dystopian down slope now.

  6. Elon musk has a long history of broken promises Musk will sell his crappy cars to members of his cult, but rational people will never buy in But there are limits to growth, a lot of apple cult members are coming to the realization that they have been duped forced to pay extra money for every app in the apple stores, forced to pay extra money to buy numerous dongles, forced to pay small fortunes for repair etc…. To this day a $35,000 model 3 is not yet available , very high rates of failure and following the apple model you can’t even fix your own cars! Enjoy getting your tesla towed hundreds of miles to the nearest tesla repair shop where they will charge you 3k to get your car running again google “tesla repair cost” many people are posting online that they are getting 10k+ quotes Meanwhile for less than 20k you can get a nice ICE car that will run 10 years easy without issue, and if a issue does appear you won’t pay more than 1k to fix it, most problems you can fix yourself for less than $100 and a jack to lift up the car According to tesla owners they are being quotes 1k per headlight bulb 1k per door handle 3600 for touchscreen 1400 for windshield 8500 for all 4 brakes, 2500 for individual

  11. I’ve seen no evidence that they’ll be able to get more than 250,000 cars per year without significantly expanding their factory. It’s claims like these from Musk that have earned my total disrespect.

  12. When has a capitalist lied to their investors? Oh wait, the entire history of US wealth and US capitalism, oh yeah.

  13. You’ve seen the US stock market and said global market based on fossil fuels right? Should I draw you a pictionary type picture child?

  14. To this day a $35,000 model 3 ” So Tommy “Musk Fluffer” Perkins lied in a prior post a few weeks ago when he claimed that they were when I brought this very issue up, then? Yeah. That about sums it up.

  15. Elon Musk talked about Tesla reaching 500,000 to 1 million cars per year.” He also ‘talked’ about going private at $420 or so per share and that the buyers were in the bag. Which caused shares of Tesla to rise and short sellers to be damaged in their position. Then after markets closed, he retracted all that. Manipulating share values that way is called ‘securities fraud’. And it is a felony. Not to mention the cause of a LOT of lawsuits from those damaged by his actions. So, he should have just STFU and let someone else make this announcement, thanks to his shattered credibility and penchant to use such statements to commit securities fraud as per the above. But hey! I am not a Musk Fluffer, so…

  22. I have no respect for you, because you have invented the strawman Tesla said they will never “significantly” expand their factory to increase production. And yes, they could double their production with what they have now if their workflow and logistics were improved (for example, when Panasonic’s new battery lines are on line).

  26. I do not see the reason for this comment Ido not see hard evidence of “very high rate of failures” in Tesla cars, where did you get this info? Quite the opposite, Tesla cars have many things ICE cars cant compete with Most safe car in the world apparently Fastest acceleration Nice features And carbon free (if used with solar) High repair costs are probably normal for a new car As for the boroken promises, true, but Tesla has built more cars in Q3 2018 than in 201 6

  27. actually, they are already about 4000 – 5000 cars per week and this means they already are at 250000 per year Since there are large vasts of spaces in Gigafactory, they can undoubtely get to 300-400 thousands without big problems I do not see the problem

  28. If you went to the local BMW or Mercedes or VW stealership and got a quote for a new door handle, new touchscreen, new windshield… guess what? Similar level of prices. More than a few “budget” cars where, because of moronic design decisions, you have to take half the front end apart to change a lightbulb and at dealership rates that works out to $1k.

  33. Sure they will! With around 1.5 BILLION people living at the will of the communist government, they have as many “dedicated” workers, as needed to meet that production goal…”or else” says the commie government.

  34. It was their intention to use a lot less human labor, but that turned out to be a fantasy for now. They have lots of human workers. And other factories have a higher % of robots. They have 45,000+ employees with10,000 employees being at its Fremont factory. The battery factory and the solar panel stuff could probably be close to 100%, automated but cars are complicated. They have lots of wires and other floppy things that humans handle much better.

  37. Efficient market hypothesis doesn’t mean the market is never wrong, it means the market is not predictable. The theory states that you can’t guess where it will go and make a bet now with a good enough chance to make money over and above the risk adjusted rate of return. Now there are various forms of this. The moderate version says something like: you can’t beat the market with publicly available information. But private information (eg. insider trading) can beat the odds. Having enthusiasm fits does nothing much to disrupt this theory, because nobody is able to predict when such fits will start and stop. I would argue that there is strong grounds for looking very hard at the phrase “risk adjusted returns”. For example the “risk” of being wrong for 3 years, but right after 10 years, is very much greater for a big institutional investor than a private individual. So the market, dominated by big institutions, can behave in ways that a private investor can work around. But my profits in investing aren’t nearly big enough for me to try to tell the conventional wisdom that they are wrong and I am right.

  38. If it is only moderately efficient, does that explain the enthusiasm fits which lead to trends going to a reversal, a la, 1929?

  41. I thought the problem with modern American capitalism was that management only expect to stay on for five years or less, so have no incentive to keep a business healthy for the long term. Since they’re all MBAs from outside the industry, they don’t have the institutional memory either, and don’t mind exporting all the jobs to the third world, or automating them, if the year-end figures will look better. I don’t agree with Trump on much – nuclear is much better than solar, electric cars have many of the same problems as ICE ones, and Mars sucks as somewhere to live – but he had been told by the Saudis that they were good for funding a share buyout. Now they’re putting money another electric car company instead. It wouldn’t be the first time that a fossil fuel company bought into a potential competitor to shut it down. That’s what happened to nickel metal hydride batteries for cars, and to most of the trolley bus and tram public transport across the United States. With recent news, Tesla might have dodged a bullet anyway, not being tainted by Saudi ownership.

  63. Nope BMW repairs costs half, and you can get it cheaper if you use non oem You could also go to 3rd party garages to repair because BMW is not greedy like tesla, they actually train anyone willing to pay to fix their cars and instructions on how to repair are all available online. Tesla has not certified any 3rd party to do repair in significant numbers, to repair you have to use tesla repair shops they have a monopoly on repair

  74. Nope, when these inventions came out it was widely considered superior and the future

Nobody is saying that electric cars aren’t the future

People are saying that the Model 3 is overpriced trash

Google model 3 build quality or tesla build quality

    google

Munro Compares Tesla Model 3 Build Quality To A “Kia From The ’90s”

Ask any engineer why they hate apple or tesla

Engineers aren’t stupid people, they know how things are made and what is worth what. The chevy bolt has far better build quality and MSRP is $36k that means with the vehicle subsidies you could get it as low as $26k

Nothing about Tesla and panasonic is magical or special they simply put in the biggest battery packs then they brag about having the greatest range

    This is a 4,000lb + car

    Another article that’s great

Comparison Of Real-World Range & Energy Efficiency Of 8 EVs By Auto Bild

    Volkswagen e-up (18,7 kWh)
    79 km
    23,7 kWh/100 km

Smart ForTwo Electric Drive (17,6 kWh)
    84 km
    21 kWh/100 km

    Nissan e-NV200 Evalia (24kWh)
    101 km
    23,8 kWh/100 km

    Kia Soul EV (30 kWh)
    167 km
    18 kWh/100 km

Hyundai IONIQ Electric (28 kWh usable)
    192 km
    14,6 kWh/100 km

    Volkswagen e-Golf (35,8 kWh)
    208 km
    17,2 kWh/100 km

    Renault Zoe (41 kWh)
    244 km
    16,8 kWh/100 km

    Opel Ampera-e (60 kWh)
    273 km
    22 kWh/100 km

There are plenty of great cars other than tesla, any sane person should opt for them instead

    >They have now developed their latest generation battery pack for electric vehicles and they used the technology to build a 100 kWh pack for a BMW i3. The company claims a range of 700 km (435 miles) on a single charge enabled by an energy density of >230 Wh/kg and 460 Wh/l at the pack level

So when you put in a 100 kWh pack into a BMW i3 the range shoots up to 435 miles

Yeah if BMW was putting a 75 kWh pack into their cars they would beat tesla at the range game but they don’t because but any engineer can see that dragging around 3000 lbs of batteries makes no engineering sense especially if you are making sub 100 mile trips

Engineers almost universally hate Tesla and Apple because they sell subpar products, at extremely high prices while conning technically ignorant people into thinking that they have magical cutting edge tech while trapping them and milking them

And not to mention the numerous lies and dishonest marketing, such as marketing the model as 35k

The people buying model 3’s and iphones aren’t engineers

Engineers are buying the 20k ICE cars, or the bolt or the BMW I3 not Tesla

Engineers are buying Huawei and One Plus not iphones

Enjoy getting your tesla towed hundreds of miles to the nearest tesla repair shop where they will charge you 3k to get your car running again

google “tesla repair cost” many people are posting online that they are getting 10k+ quotes

Meanwhile for less than 20k you can get a nice ICE car that will run 10 years easy without issue, and if a issue does appear you won’t pay more than 1k to fix it, most problems you can fix yourself for less than $100 and a jack to lift up the car

According to tesla owners they are being quotes 1k per headlight bulb
    1k per door handle
    3600 for touchscreen
    1400 for windshield

8500 for all 4 brakes, 2500 for individual

  131. ICE is over, it had a strong century run, but that’s it.

Grid electricity will ALWAYS be cheaper than oil. Electric motors will ALWAYS be better than internal combustion engines.

    The game is over.
