Tesla ramping production and profitability

Elon Musk urged Tesla workers to help Tesla achieve profitability in the third quarter.

There is some uncertainty about exactly how many Tesla Model 3s were produced in the third quarter. Estimates are about 55,000. This could be about $920 million in profit from the model 3.

Sandy Munro of Munro and Associates takes all kinds of cars apart and analyzes the parts and assembly processes. He claims that for every dollar a car maker pays to his company they are able to provide $20 in value from suggested improvements in parts and processes.

Sandy took apart the Model 3 and determined that the Tesla Model 3 is over 30% profitable. No other electric car is getting 30% net. At 3 minutes in the first video below.

The density of the Model 3 electronics and the integration of circuit boards is a symphony of engineering.

The Battery cell is 20% bigger and has 50% more power.

Initially Sandy was not impressed, but as he completed his teardown analysis and drove the Model 3 he became very impressed with it.

  1. Tesla does make great cars” Who says? Actually, they make crâppy cars. This has been well documented. “they’re clearly on an S curve and about to hit profitability” Who says? “They’re eating non-US car makers breakfast ” Who says? “saving the environment too;” No they are not. ” Rather than the vitriol could we have a reasoned post as to why you don’t like them as an organisation, please?” As I have REPEATEDLY STATED..it is the Musk Fluffers I go after. Haven’t you read anything?

  3. Hey Warren – thanks for the amusing posts. Forgive me but I don’t understand why the negativity. Tesla does make great cars, they’re clearly on an S curve and about to hit profitability. They’re eating non-US car makers breakfast and saving the environment too; don’t you want your kids to breathe fresh air? Rather than the vitriol could we have a reasoned post as to why you don’t like them as an organisation, please? ( I currently drive a BMW) so am not a classic Musk Fluffer. That said I think his cars are pretty awesome and spaceX is gobsmackingly amazing. Look forward to your reply. 🙂

  5. Tesla is in a home stretch now and nothing can stop it. Since there is not logical reason of any kind to hate tesla the only people who post negative stuff about it are paid Russian trolls or short sellers. The first group are scum bags and the other are losers.

  9. It is EXTREMELY optimistic to claim that Australia is covered by a supercharger network. The Australian East Coast (admittedly where most of the population live) has about 75% coverage. The city of 130 000 people where I grew up has no supercharger within 700 km. The Tesla website itself claims that Australia is 22% covered.

  17. Oh! So now you are making up fake email files, eh? That’s easier to do than photoshopping. They are essentially text files, after all.

Well Brett.. there is no ‘civil’ discussion possible with these nutters. None. I mean, they are resorting to faking posts with photoshop now!

  33. No moron, it means the numbers are good to within 5%.” Whose numbers? Tesla’s? I’d like to see independently verified numbers from a credible, outside auditing firm, thank you. Oh…Tesla can not…or more accurate to say, WILL NOT do that? Well…then. I guess that is that. ..won’t stop the Musk Fluffers from spreading the cooked books numbers as gospel tho, will it?

  35. Notice how Tommy is resorting to photoshopped fakes of ‘posts’, now? The Musk Fluffers sure are getting desperate. Can’t wait to see them all go nuts when the DoJ nails Musk to the wall.

He then later erased that comment seen there and swears he never posted it. He’s just a lying troll. He was claiming the video he linked to had something to do with Tesla Model3’s having an IPad glued into them, when in fact it was of a DIYer putting one into his not-a-Tesla car with a 3D printed bracket.

  47. Translation: It’s all bs. Now watch the Musk Fluffers in high gear, making outlandish and unfounded declarations in response to what you just said. Oh wait! Igor has already proved me correct! 50. There’s uncertainty because they haven’t released their Q3 production numbers to the public yet. I think that’s pretty obvious. We’re going purely off forecasts and estimates published in the press, but from all the evidence so far it looks as though they met their ambitious targets. Keep in mind that every goal Tesla announces to the public is designed to be overly ambitious. Setting overly ambitious public goals pressures the company into working harder to achieve that goal faster. People need to realize that scaling a car company from 0 cars per year to 300,000 cars per year in six years is extraordinary, especially when all the cars are high-quality, electric and semi-autonomous. Meeting their production targets six months late isn’t important in the long-term picture, they’ve got 80% of the US electric vehicle market, the Model 3 was the highest grossing car sold in the US in August, all evidence points to positive cash flow in Q3 and Q4, they’re years ahead of the competition in autonomous vehicle hardware and data, they have an entire continent of proprietary superchargers that only Tesla-owners have access to, they’ve built a fresh hip brand.

Bloomberg's tracker has average within a few percent of the actual count. Because you are only a lying troll throwing FUD, you lose.

  53. Bloomberg’s Model 3 tracker estimates 53,330 for the third quarter. They have been reasonably close so far. Their methodology has been to take VIN registrations (by Tesla, before a car is built), and reported VINs by owners and observers in the field (after delivery), then averaging them.

  58. There is some uncertainty about exactly how many Tesla Model 3s were produced in the third quarter.” What do you mean there is ‘uncertainty’. Either Tesla produced X number of cars or didn’t. Where is this ‘uncertainty’? Now watch the Musk Fluffers attack me for simply asking (yet again) a very logical and simple question. But one does not ask such questions else the Kool Aid drinkers start accusing you of holding short positions on Tesla stock or worse.
