China Airshow shows J-20 with missile bay open and new missiles

China showed off four J-20 stealth fighters during the last day of the 12th Zhuhai Air Show. Two of the stealth fighters opened their weapons bay to show four medium-range air-to-air missiles and two close-range combat missiles.

They also had a separate ground display of new Pili-10E air to air missiles.

The claim is the new missiles are comparable to US AIM-9X missiles.

  1. Other than engines the overall shape of the fighter does copy well the stealth features in American jets in contrast to Russian SU 57.

  2. It the J-20 still equipped with the sub-standard jet engines? Not enough power and guzzles jet fuel. The reality is you can’t tell how good the J-20 jet is until you either get one or engage one in actual combat.

  3. Look! Those are the paper mâché missiles that kid showed at his school science fair that the military overreacted to!

  4. What do you think the likelihood is that those “show off missiles” were just mocked up dummies? Its not like you need to mount real, working missiles at an air show. You cannot fire them at anything. I know — for instance — that at American air shows, the regulations require all displayed weapons to be mock-up dummy place holders. Its required. I know that too for European air shows. Have a friend who used to be part of their organization and certification. No live rounds. Period. Non-negotiable. The point is this: I have no doubt whatsoever that The Chinese have produced and have working — and in production — air-to-air missiles. Ones that fit into the lovely J–20. That can pop out, take off, and target a madly counter-offensively writhing opponent plane, to take it out. Heat seeking, active radar, passive radar triangulation. All sorts of stuff. Proximity detonation, shaped charge armory and all the rest. The real point is… how effect — really — are these new rounds? That, goats and gals, is quite the question to behold. Just saying,GoatGuy

  5. According to RCS

    B-52 – 100
    F-15 – 25
    su-27 – 15
    F-16 – 5
    Mig-21 – 3
    F-18 – 1
    B-2 – .75
    Eurofighter – .5

    F-35 – .005
    F-22 – .0001

So the Eurofighter is considered to be stealthy and it has Canards

The X-36 was reportedly stealthier than the F-22 and the X-36 has Canards

There were also numerous 6th gen fighter concept proposals that had canards

    Early F-22 designs had Canards

Canards do not inherently make a plane less stealthy, this was a myth perpetuated by idiots on site like reddit. Actual engineers and physicists do not agree.

  6. LOL, yeah, China builds a “new” aircraft. NO, china COPIED parts of this or that, and stole the information for this or that.5 bucks says it won’t work as intended, and even if it does, they don’t have the COMBAT EXPERIENCE that Russia & the west does. They make a great show for a parade, but that’s about it.

  7. The chinese truly need a powerful fighter jet or stealth bomber with hypersonic missiles, to defend their position in the south China seas. So I’m sure they are going to take this super seriously.

  10. Spreading a well debunked myth Google X-36 The Eurofighter has canards and it is stealthier than the F-18 and the B-2

  11. Russia’s military tech was indeed real, the economy wasn’t >China is doing the same thing because there’s no check and balancesWrong, google “National peoples congress” and politburo Xi jinping can’t pass any laws, he can only enforce them as the executive branchEvery law needs to be voted on by the NPCThe politburo members are elected by the NPCNPC members are elected and have to win elections Xi jiping’s needs consensus amongst all politburo members before doing anything.

  12. Numerous airforce generals along with the US secretary of defence have confirmed the PL-15, the PL-15 has been in service for years now But surely warren but know better than the US secretary of defence

  17. Well if you have known during the Cold War, Russia claims and confirms a lot of things. But at the end, US always finds out that most of what they “claim and confirm” are way inferior than reality. China is doing the same thing because there’s no check and balances like in the US. At US, if you claim superiority then show otherwise, you will be mocked, humiliated and insulted forever (maybe fired from the job) so validation and confirmation are very critical. So what do you have in China Mr Pisa the China “PR” man?

  18. Who is ‘we’?I personally confirmed tests for these missiles and confirmed specifications and found them to be made out of paper mache. So there.

  19. We already have confirmed tests for these missiles and confirmed specifications and they are vastly superior to the missiles fielded by the F-22, they move faster and have more range and are ramjet powered

  20. He didn’t set up anything, all he proved is complete ignorance of tech The mock up missiles are the PL-15 and the PL-12 The PL-15 has already been tested Global Security has written extensively on it, and numerous photos have shown various planes carrying the PL-15It is already confirmed, it is ramjet powered and hits 400 KM at over mach 5The F-22 equivalent is the AIM 120 which is mach 4 with 180KM and is not ramjet poweredGeneral Herbert Carlisle has already confirmed the existence of the PL-15 and has stated that the US has no equivalent Source – IHS Jane’s 360 “New BVRAAM may have entered PLAAF service”

  23. Love how you just set up our NBF resident wu maus to defend an impossible position:1) They agree that the missiles shown are mock-ups, but that opens them to attack from folks like me that they can’t prove that China actually have said missiles for real. 2) They claim you are full of shït and that those were really missiles! But that destroys their credibility right out the gate because nobody brings live ordinance to airshows — not even the PLA is that stupid, unless the wu maus insist indirectly that they are that stupid by insisting upon this position.
