SpaceX BFR reusability simulation video

The SpaceX Mini-BFR for the Falcon 9 will only be used for testing and will not become a fully reusable second stage for the F9 or FH.

If SpaceX makes the F9 upper stage more reusable. Elon has said they will add more thermal protection to the upper stage. They will see what the least amount of mass necessary to return the upper stage in a condition that is reusable. Elon is confident reusability can be achieved. However, effort and focus is on the BFR.

  1. I believe Musk this is just a quick and easy test to see if their simulation physics are correct for the BFR without actually having to build a BFR yet. It isn’t about making F9 full reusable. Of course, a cost plus NASA contractor, would of demanded a full sized test flights or very specialized tests costing taxpayers billions.

  3. I hope before he sends people to mars he implements infastructure like reflective material strategically placed on phobos. That would give mars more light during its day and night. Increasing mars heat. Nice rockets to. Keep up the good work.

  4. Makes sense, it’s just a test article. At least I think we can count on Elon not deliberately naming it “Enterprise” just to stick it to Trekies. (Responding to a petition to name one of the Shuttles “Enterprise” by using the name on a test article that would never see space was, I think, a deliberate thumb in the eye by NASA.)
