NFI Industries vice president of fleet services James O’Leary says NFI ordered 10 Tesla Class 8 trucks and they are expecting them to be delivered in 2020.
Daimler and Volvo will start delivering their electric models as early as 2019. Electric semis still will not be ready for the broader market for up to a decade. The electric trucks will with be shorter range large trucks or smaller than semi trucks.
NFI has 10 electrified Freightliners on order from Daimler, which released its first two electric models in June. The Daimler trucks are expected to be delivered in the middle of 2019.
NFI is testing forklifts, yard horses and other equipment from Volvo, Meritor and China’s BYD.
Tesla Model Y
The Tesla Show has details about the Model Y. It will be all-wheel drive only and have a base price of $35,000 to $40,000.
Tesla may be planning a Hardware 3.5 upgrade that will add more cameras and radar to the existing Hardware 2 package. Hardware 3 will include the new Tesla-designed and -engineered self-driving computer that is 10× faster than the Nvidia Drive PX2 used in the cars being manufactured today.
The Tesla Model Y would have level 4 self-driving.
The final design for the Tesla Model Y is expected to be revealed in a few months and production should start late in 2019 or early in 2020.
The China Gigafactory is to begin production late in 2019. This factory would provide extra capacity to allow Model Y production at another Tesla plant and for Model Y to be built in China. Elon has said the China factory would build Model 3 and Model Y.

– 250+ mile base model
– Autopilot HW 3.5 (with the possibility of a Tesla-designed Radar system, more
