Tesla Model Y Will Hold Seven Passengers

The Tesla Model Y will have three rows of seats and hold seven passengers. Each second-row seat folds flat independently, creating flexible storage for skis, furniture, luggage and more. The liftgate opens to a low trunk floor that makes loading and unloading easy and quick. There will be versions priced from $39,000 to $61,000. The first versions will be released in the fall of 2020. It will take 3.5 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph. There will be 220 mile and 300-mile range versions. The compact SUV segment is about 20% of car sales in China and the crossover vehicle is 40% of the US market. It is the largest car segment in the US.

  1. At the time of initial argument about this which was actually a long while there was only one proven case, now there maybe two I am not sure because your examples have not yet finished investigation by Tesla. The point is people claim spontaneous combustion only to later been proven otherwise. Like that one case where the battery was shot with a bullet.
But the relevant questions here is not if one or 3 or 5 Tesla spontaneously combust but if it happens less frequently than in ICE cars. Yes ICE cars also spontaneously combust. According to Elon it happens a lot LESS OFTEN in Teslas than in ICE cars. If you want to prove him wrong well you better show statistical data.

  2. The name’s Brent, MORON.

What conspiracy theories do I post MORON?

Where did I say that you did post conspiracy theories, Brenty? Uh…no where.

What conspiracy theories? Like the ones Brian posts here all the time?

Clearly I was speaking about BRIAN. He posts articles are de facto conspiracy theories sometimes. Like the Russian and China military vaporware ones, for example. Where did I EVER even remotely refer to you, Brenty?

Reading Comprehension Skills: Learn them or look like Brenty the Moron on the Internet!

  3. Ummm, sorry to burst your bubble but you dont really need all cars to be electric for this to be a problem for countries dependeny on fossil fuels for their budgets.

Um, sorry to burst your bubble but that isn’t how it will work out.

Gasoline cars will become cheaper to operate. Not mention that brownouts that occur in most of the world won’t impact refueling said cars much. Also as for budgets, you don’t seem to be aware that gas taxes are a big budget item for most governments.

What keeps oil prices where they are is demand, all thats needed is sufficient electrification of vehicles to put oil demand on a permanent downward trend

Not going to happen. It’s not even going to happen in the US . Once EV penetrates a certain % level (which Brian wrote an article about) the current grid system won’t be able to handle it and it will be very, very expensive to upgrade the grid to be able to do so. Who is going to pay for that? Building and home users? Industrial users? Uh..no. You thought NIMBYism is already bad, on this topic it will be far, far worse.

Unfortunately for petro states, peak oil DEMAND is likely to be here in a few years not decades.

Hahahahah! The sheer fantasy world you live in!

And who cars about petro states? They are screwed anyway, as I said.

  4. If you’re not concerned about extremely ignorant politicians with power, espousing state control over every aspect of every person’s life, you’re dangerously naive.

I’m not sure where I came off as being not concerned? I believe politicians are pretty much useless, and the representative government needs to be revised to a more direct style of Democracy. We already have all of the networking in place to make this happen. We just need to develop a secure system architecture so people can vote from home, or from a secure segregated network location.

I’m not saying some politicians don’t have good intentions though 🙂

  5. Combinatorics already did. And it it took him less than 5 minutes — most of which was probably spent on typing up this response as opposed to finding the proof you are willfully ignorant regarding, too.

  6. Ah yes. The Ad hominem attack.

    If the shoe fits.

I don’t have to. She does that all on her own.

Well you still are infatuated by her it seems.

    You are a Democrat.

lol, even if I was, it would be the better option, then the other stupid “Boy’s Clubs” America has. I don’t drink anyone’s Kool Aid buddy. Think for yourself. Something you seem to have trouble doing with your regurgitated right-wing talking points.

  7. but I know your just a “He who has no life” type of person

Ah yes. The Ad hominem attack.

You tell me what’s wrong with AOC.

I don’t have to. She does that all on her own.

What if I was a Democrat?

    You are a Democrat.

  8. Where do I call anyone stupid for that?

My boss is stupid for all kinds of reasons. Most are. Opinions are not high on that list of reasons, too.

  9. NBAntiHero – If you’re not concerned about extremely ignorant politicians with power, espousing state control over every aspect of every person’s life, you’re dangerously nieve.

  10. I realize crossovers as a vehicle category are a thing, but it kinda felt disappointing to see that the Y was like a beefier 3, sorta like how there is a Prius and Prius wagon. I would have expected the 3 and the Y to come out at the same time if this was the end result since they seems effectively the same vehicle platform.

  11. He hasn’t managed to bring it to where it’s a middle class car yet, but I’m excited for when he does, because I’ll own one.

  12. >> There is a reason your boss is your boss and not the other way around and it is not because you are smarter than him.

Come on, we all know that’s not the likely reason.
NextBigAsshole may very well be smarter than his boss.
It is more likely his people skills, or lack thereof.
He’s probably simply too blunt and always has to say the truth even when biting one’s tongue is better.

  13. No, because the day when all cars are electric are a long way off.

Ummm, sorry to burst your bubble but you dont really need all cars to be electric for this to be a problem for countries dependeny on fossil fuels for their budgets.

What keeps oil prices where they are is demand, all thats needed is sufficient electrification of vehicles to put oil demand on a permanent downward trend. When that happens, the price of oil will continue to drop from that point forward. If your an oil producer what your watching for is oil price to get to the point where its too expensive for you to dig it up.

Unfortunately for petro states, peak oil DEMAND is likely to be here in a few years not decades.

  14. I actually like IKEA European kitchens.

Then again i’m half Swedish for whatever that is worth so maybe it is in the genes.

  15. I don’t own a Tesla so why would I comment on their forums?

Anyone with logic and understanding of probabilities will know that there is a nonrandom explanation of this grouping of unlikely opinions

Are you on drugs? I first saw “iPad on a stick” from you in this forum post.

I think the outside of the car is gorgeous. I think that hanging a touch screen on a stick is ugly. For the crime of having an ascetic sense of beauty I am labeled a Russian troll.

in order to decrease Tesla sales and give Putin a few more years in power.

    Math time!

Tesla’s NUMMI plant production is probably limited to 600,000 vehicles per year.

In 2018 the world produced 91,000,000 vehicles (cars and commercial vehicles, stat from statista.com).

So when NUMMI hits full capacity Tesla will displace 100.0* 600k/91,000k = 0.6% of worldwide auto sales. I don’t think that this is what is worrying Putin in the short term.

Long term once VW, GM, and Ford roll out their electric cars things get dicey for Putin from the EV perspective.

In the short term Putin has to deal with US oil and gas lowering oil prices and displacing contracts in Europe which diminish his soft power.

I reiterate my previous opinion that Putin is doomed in the short term by fracking and doomed in the long term by fracking and EVs.

  16. Send proofs of multiple self combustion or you are full of B.S.

Literally 15 seconds later with only slightly intelligent searches I have two Teslas spontaneously combusting:

I get that you like Tesla but you come off as something of a fanatic.

And to be fair the relevant question would be “Well how many GM cars also burst in to flames in test drives?”. This is all anecdotal but for you to issue a throw down over something that can be easily demonstrated by quick web searches makes you look really stupid and I don’t say that lightly.

  17. A big difference between Tesla and legacy auto is that Tesla is continuously optimizing the factory and thus the product,

Well when your founder’s insistence on building an “Alien Dreadnought” assembly line falls flat on its face you need to fix things or you go out of business ASAP.

  18. A big difference between Tesla and legacy auto is that Tesla is continuously optimizing the factory and thus the product, whereas the traditional auto makers have more of a ‘pencils down’ approach where the assembly line is fixed for the model-year. The first Model 3s were basically the beta-version of the car and Tesla, unfortunately, has garnered a reputation for poor quality (panel gaps! paint chips!). Even though these issues are resolved, this is the impression that many (most?) people have of Tesla because it’s what the mainstream media has been trumpeting (it doesn’t help that Tesla doesn’t have any leverage whatsoever with the media because they don’t advertise through that channel). It really makes you think twice before plopping down fifty grand on a car. This is a problem for a company that relies mostly in word-of-mouth for advertising.

I’m really excited about the Model Y and it’s probably going to be my next car. However, even though I consider myself to be a big Tesla enthusiast (and a small shareholder) there’s no way that I’m going to be buying the car in the first year of production. Now, I realize that they have certainly learned a lot with Model 3 and hopefully won’t be going through the same woes with Model Y, but still.

Anyway, I’ll be curious to see how many pre-orders they get for the Y. Will be very surprised if it’s anywhere close to what the had for the 3.

  19. I think it could be a “Any news is good news” situation with Tesla and Twitter. That is my guess as to why no one on the board has demanded he close his account. They need to stay in the public consciousness.

  20. I totally concur on the Russian troll bit. It seems to me they went into overdrive once candidates announced, and Tesla released the 35k M3. Can’t have anyone challenge their oil cash cow, and Putins still pissed about the sanctions imposed by the party not in office.

I understand criticisms about the various Tesla models, clearly they are not everyone’s cup of tea. But there is a distinction between nuanced commentary that is enlightening and inane drivel that seems to come from the trolls.

  21. I read tesla blogs and comments on Tesla model3 and I have never heard anyone complain about “ipad on a stick”.  But this site here it seems every single one of you has this problem….   Anyone with logic and understanding of probabilities will know that there is a nonrandom explanation of this grouping of unlikely opinions and that is that you are all paid to troll the same line in order to decrease Tesla sales and give Putin a few more years in power.

  22. The poor fit and finish has been a thing of the past, for at least 5month there is absolutely no issues with fit and finish.

  23. I was referring to your dead Democrat voter conspiracy. I’m reasonably sure you have others at your disposal as well.

You might think you have everyone fooled, but I know your just a “He who has no life” type of person. You probably think you know so much as well. Anyone can go to Wikipedia, and obtain a 5-min formal opinion. I’ve frequented this site for over 10 years, and I’ve see you switch, and switch your usernames, because you keep berating, insulting, and trolling people. I know you’ve even erased others opinions if you didn’t like them, because you paid to be a moderator. You, who has no life, means you’re a loser. I would be willing to make a bet you live around people you hate, and detest. You probably think you’re the smart one, and you know more then anyone else. That’s dangerous galileo. You will never get what you desire. You will fail, and burn with the rest.

You tell me what’s wrong with AOC. You’re the one always talking about her. Either you have a crush, or you’re scared. I’d bet on the former.

What if I was a Democrat? Would it matter? Would it make you feel better? Are you a melting snowflake?

Keep being closed-minded, afraid, most tragically alone.

See, I don’t know who you really are, as you don’t know who I really am. This is a game, in which you’re the loser 🙂

    Bye bye now

  24. Me: “Putin is doomed and it is glorious”
Igor: “You sir are a Russian troll”
Me: “Me thinks the lady doth protest too much”

  25. What conspiracy theories? Like the ones Brian posts here all the time?

    Fox News

Ah yes the Fox News canard.

    Ignorance

No, I don’t demonstrate ignorance on here. it is the fools I rip apart all the time who do so.

    close-mindedness is the enemy.

Knowing one’s enemy does not make one close-minded. Just makes them knowledgeable.

    AOC,

What’s wrong with AOC? Don’t like it that I rip into the Future of the Democrat Party (not my words, but the DNC Chair’s)?

Well I’m not a Democrat so I can’t speak for them

…riiiight! Sez the person who just did.

Last, why did you feel the need to create a new bogus account to rip into me right now?

Answer: Because you are a Democrat after all.

  26. Yes there has. Just like there have been multiple cases of them bursting into fire and their bumpers filling up with water and falling off.

You complain of trolls. Yet that is all you do: Troll for Tesla.

  27. That is trolls tactics. There are a few things that a threat to Putin and the trolls will come hard on them on his side while otherwise presenting themselves perfectly anti Putin.

  28. Well I’m not a Democrat so I can’t speak for them, but it seems you’ve proven you’re mostly moronic just by your post history. You need to lighten up on the conspiracy theories buddy. Maybe get outside of your comfort zone, and off of this echo chamber you seem to feel safe in. The left, the right, Fox News, Huff Post, AOC, Trump, none of these are anyone’s enemies. Ignorance, and close-mindedness is the enemy. Take that however you want, I’m sure you will 🙂

  29. Why don’t you try to look through the site’s older comments and see how people have dealt with actual Russian Trolls (e.g. Phaeton).

Calling everyone you hate a Ruskie/Fascist is just sad.

  30. Putin himself couple years back identified green technologies and specialty electrification of transportation as “grave long term threat to Russian Federation “

Imagine Putin’s surprise when US fracking K-O’d his finances in the short term and EVs + fracking guarantee there will be no long term recovery.

Putin is doomed in the short term and long term and it is glorious. But tell me more about how I am some kind of Russian troll because a car’s interior offends my ascetic sense.

  31. I’m not negative. It is actually kind of neat to see a new car company being created. Long term I think batteries will do very well in cars.

What I can’t stand about Tesla is poor build quality (e.g. shoddy paint, poor design) and the fact that no adults seem to be running the company.

No adults? Why yes. Mr Musk twitter trashed his own brick and mortars and announced their closure. Then somebody pointed out that walking away from them would cost an insane amount of money because his lease contracts don’t allow for this. And so within two days he basically went from “close all the storez!” to “my bad ignore that!”.

I rather like the brick and mortar stores in malls. It was a genius move.

  32. Hello Curtains, Combinatorics and RZ now you are on record as repeatedly using paid Russian troll line

You’ve obviously never seen me harass Russian trolls. I don’t appreciate the implied guilt by association.

And it isn’t an iPad on a stick. More of a Samsung on a stick which is much less classy.

  33. I love the model 3 exterior kinda meh on the interior, hate the ipad on a stick. Wish that the ipad was at least flush with the dashboard.

I actually like the minimalist IKEA interior, just hate that the monitor is on a stick.

And no way I am a Russian troll.

  34. Oh, so NOW you quote Putin as some sort of authority on the issue after going after his trolls?

What a hypocrite. Anything to fluff for Musk, eh?

As far as Kool Aid, everything Elon and I have said has come to reality, so who is drinking the Kool-Aid?

BS. You said once that there were only one case of these cars spontaneously combusting. There have been several.

  35. I wouldn’t call myself negative on Tesla; if I had the cash I would pick up a Model S in a heartbeat, and overall I like what they are doing. I am also pretty sure they will sell every Model Y they can make with pretty good profit margins. I would just prefer they put a more conventional interior in the Model 3 & Y. Calling out “Russian trolls” whenever someone has some actual critism is not a good debate tactic.

  36. Yea I have seen those comments about “stick on ipad” come out from obvious anti-tesla trolls be it Russian, GM or Chevron.  But my money would be on the Russians knowing how much of this kind of stuff they been doing.

  37. I find it very strange that everyone on this site is negative on tesla, except Igor that is.  Anti-Tesla trolls are real.. .

  38. There has NEVER been a case of Tesla screen falling off, in fact it is SOLID AS A ROCK. There is a reason your boss is your boss and not the other way around and it is not because you are smarter than him.

  39. Putin himself couple years back identified green technologies and specialty electrification of transportation as “grave long term threat to Russian Federation ” in an official Russian government strategies for future development plans. As far as Kool Aid, everything Elon and I have said has come to reality, so who is drinking the Kool-Aid?

  40. So you are saying that when all cars are electric that will have no effect on Russian petrol industry?

No, because the day when all cars are electric are a long way off.

Or you are disputing that Tesla has started and pushing forward E.V. Revolution?

I dispute nothing. I just don’t drink the Musk Kool-Aid like you do.

  41. My stupid boss owns a Model X and the damn iPad keeps falling off, with flakes of Elmer’s glue getting on the seats every time.

Of course, that isn’t half as bad as when the bumper fills up with rainwater and falls off because it gets too heavy.

  42. Honestly, you sound like you yourself are in fact a Russian troll, who by complaining about Russian trolls in such a silly and petty manner, ends up discrediting more legitimate concerns about actual Russian internet activities.

  43. All I am going to say about it is I know what i am talking about when I mention paid Russian troll activities. I fact I will start posting about them here. The more people will learn about the incredibly dirty tactics they use the more open eyed they will be. And if Russian trolls think I am going to let them off the hook and let them keep doing their dirty business here they should think again. Better follow Phaeton to other pastures where I am still not there.

  44. So you are saying that when all cars are electric that will have no effect on Russian petrol industry? Or you are disputing that Tesla has started and pushing forward E.V. Revolution?

  45. I own model 3 and not only does the center display not suck I marvel at it every day and would not have it any other way. I have friends that also own tesla model 3 and none have complained. I keep track of what Russian trolls write about the model 3 and they coined the “stick on IPad” line and to this day the only ones using. If you are the exception to this rule it would be the first.
Additionally, I CHALLENGE ANYONE TO NAME A BETTER IN CAR DISPLAY. Do not offer other Tesla models. By the way it is far more responsive screen than even other Teslas.

  46. Dude; not everything you don’t like on the internet is because of “Russian Trolls”: a lot of people genuinely do not like the extremely minimalist interior Tesla is going with on the 3 & Y. A design decision like that is going to attract a lot of controversy. Especially when there isn’t much else to criticize about the 3 & Y; the exteriors look fine, they have usefully long ranges alongside of Tesla’s well distributed charging network, good performance & handling, some nifty little stuff like the “autopilot” and front trunk, and so on. The only other issue to complain about with Teslas is stuff like some minor QC issues during assembly, or how long it took to get the cheaper models available, or complaints about getting aftermarket parts for repair. Which generally isn’t as fun to complain about as the silly interior design Tesla went with.

  47. I’m not Russian and I don’t believe the Russian petrol industry is under threat from Tesla.

It is under threat from its own mis-management like all state-owned oil enterprises end up becoming as well as competition from cheap & plentiful fracked oil from America.

yet I have brought up the ‘stick on iPad’. Because it sucks. 🙂

  48. Not if Musk keeps generating investor lawsuits and scrutiny with the SEC with his ridiculous tweets.

Yes, there’s another lawsuit from a bad Tweet and now the SEC is charging him/Tesla with violating the terms of the settlement that they reached.

Someone NEEDS to take away his Twitter account access.

  49. Model Y is a high quality, high performance and high utility vehicle offered at very compelling price points that I predict will take the world by storm and double TESLA revenue and profit putting huge pressure on all other automakers to transfer to electric vehicles ASAP.

  50. Watch for paid Russian trolls to sing their old song about how they hate the “stick on IPad” in the interior. Mind you none of them have actually set in a model 3. This is the topic where all their wasted time on apolitical comments is supposed to pay off by trying to bring down TESLA which of course is an existential threat to Russian petrol industry.
Hello Curtains, Combinatorics and RZ now you are on record as repeatedly using paid Russian troll line about model 3 that is used nearly exclusively by the paid Russian trolls. This will help US cibersecurity people looking for your kind.

  51. I don’t like European kitchens and didn’t expect to be thrilled with the Model 3 interior, from the photos, for the same reasons. A week into owning it changed my mind completely. It is now jarring to be in a Model S or my wife’s Lincoln with all of the superfluous gauges and displays. It is a very well executed concept.

  52. Looking at the model 3’s in the parking lot it seems that the rear seats of the model Y will be one foot from the rear of the car.

I don’t know why they are working to cram 7 people in to a model 3. I don’t know who wants that in a small crossover.

I wish that Tesla would focus on build quality over gimmicks. At least the Falcon doors are not an option on the Y.

  53. I just hate the minimalist interior of the 3 and the Y.
Just looks like they super glued an iPad to the console.
