1. Traditional sniper weapons are necessary to maintain high suspense movies and TV shows. But seriously, the bolt-action (or even auto e.g., .50 cal) with a good scope, is “good enough”, no need for specialized rounds/calibers, and electric-powered gadgets (exception being night vision scopes). Ie need to be totally reliable, simple. A good sniper with a Mk13 (.300 WM, basically a Remington 700) with a 8-32x56mm scope should be able to hit pretty much anything out to 1,000 yards and beyond. Snipers are very conservative in this regard, keep it as simple as possible.

   The multi-click idea is great idea, but might as well then just use guided missiles. It’s an idea to step up your concept. Satellite-guided munitions on multiple targets from an airborne platform. See 100+ bad guys from the sky, tag each of them day or night, and press the red button. No need for snipers at all. Israelis have a very good drone sniping system that has satellite (or “awac”-based) targeting. Use things like Exacto rounds and good to go.

   As for pigs, on my farm I dump a load of old apples, food, veggie compost etc in a clearing behind the house at night and when the pigs show up I shoot them from the rooftop. I use a pretty awesome suppressor (don’t need ear protection) and can pretty much shoot them all night if I wanted to. It’s like using a net to go fishing.

   After the first incident only the most stupid politicians will be at podiums without effective anti-drone screens.
   Therefore, you’ll be killing off the most stupid of opposition politicians.

   Is that really a good move?

   What you actually want is a method of killing (even better of career killing, but without a messy corpse that just causes trouble) those members of the opposition who show the ability to get anything done, and leave the hopeless ineffectual seat fillers to multiply and waste opposition resources.

   For example: anyone who will really dominate politics and make real changes in the world, was probably outspoken and doing unusual things even as a teenager. So if you can trawl through everything they ever said, wrote, or a totally trustworthy witness can bring up some false-repressed-memories of. You’ll find something that was unsuitable for a middle aged politician to be associated with, at least by this week’s standards. And you can use “code words and dog whistles” to make up a bad meaning even if there isn’t one there.

   And these days they just issue patents w/o checking them. Only when someone complains will they look at a patent.

8. I have long (20+ years) wondered why snipers use conventional rifles.  

   I would have thought that the perfect weapon is a tripod-mounted “gun computer”, with stabilized optics, “recoilless” propellant gas deflectors etc. I imagine the actual sniper loitering behind a hardened defense embankment, using heads-up-gear to see her targets, and “click” them; the “ranging computer” works the ballistics calculations, takeing IR pulse ranging, computing offsets, and firing.  

   In fractions of a second.  

   Moreover, once ranging is determined, moving subjects can be rather accurately compensated.  
   Much better than humans on the average.  

   BLAM… Within a fraction of a second, out goes the target.  

   Moreover, by “pointing and MULTI-clicking”, dozens of targets would be tracked, offsets computed, and shot at in very rapid succession. 10, 20, 30 targets in a minute would be a serious game-changer.

   It also would be AWESOME against the terrible infestation of wild boar. Set up 3 or 4 of the things, click on the targets (say 20, 30 of the pigs), and press the “go” button.  Rapid-fire destruction of the whole sounder.¹

   People (hunters) have told me it would take the ‘sport’ out of hunting. I totally disagree: it introduces the ‘sport’ of using really-high-tech equipment (which hunters do all the time).

   I guess the downside would be as an ultimate terrorist’s weapon.

9. I am always surprised when the patenting system grants patents for the obvious and existing. There is nothing new or innovative integrating a firing capability on airborne platforms, even an autonomous one. The invention is more than 150 years old.

10. There is already a Linux based “smart” sniper rifle. It just needs a stable flight platform. The SS (Secret Service) will love those. My prediction: only stupid politicians will give speeches outdoors in the future.
