Electrek reports that Tesla is preparing a fifth assembly line at its Fremont, California, factory. It seems that this is the new Model Y production.

  1. I don’t see it being a priority in the near future. I expect that they will next work on a more entry-level full-size car and SUV and/or updates to Model S/X.

  2. While the 3 and Y have a greater parts similarity than the S and X, the demand for them is so much greater they need multiple lines anyway.

  3. Huh, I was under the impression the similarities in parts between the 3 and Y were greater than the S and X, which would have made Y production colocated with 3 production easier…

  4. This is basically what I was thinking. ETA on a tent? Hopefully Tesla learned their lesson and we won’t have to repeat the “Tents are just the best, trust me!” fiasco.
