  2. Sounds more like Adsearch then Addsearch. I use search maybe 5% of the time to actually buy something. The rest of the time is for research purposes.

  3. Okay, highly personalizing initial experience may have a market, but people also realize that customization may also be to their demerit as well. For example, getting cheaper plane tickets by visiting a ticket site in incognito mode, rather than getting scalped because they had the temerity to expose their own location (which had no bearing on the departure and arrival points).

    But a lot of people actually need personal search in a different manner, in the form of a second brain style knowledge store of enhanced bookmarks. Delicious was a pretty good minimal bookmarking site with tagging (the tags being the extension beyond traditional bookmarks to make it easier to find, but relied on being highly diligent with the tagging itself). There’s a group trying to extend the bookmark concept by somehow using a browser extension to full text index the contents of sites you visit to make it easier to search from your own browser history. They call it Memex, in a nod to Vanavar Bush’s Memex concept. Since it runs local, it’s “mostly” private…
