Evidence for New Physics Could Mean Fifth Force

Hungarian researchers publish new evidence of X17 particle And if this is confirmed could be evidence of a fifth force of nature. This would be new physics beyond the Standard Mode. It could also lead to solutions for Dark Matter.

The scientists were closely watching how an excited helium atom emitted light as it decayed. The particles split at an unusual angle, 115 degrees, which couldn’t be explained by known physics.

The study’s lead scientist, Attila Krasznahorkay said this was the second time his team had detected a new particle, which they call X17, because they calculated its mass at 17 megaelectronvolts.

“X17 could be a particle, which connects our visible world with the dark matter,” he said in an email.

  1. Are you sure that the 3rd and 4th forces are slam dunk?
I have a 24-dimensional theory of everything, and there are 8 elementary forces. Anyone interested in the details?

  2. The undiscovered 5th force must be how that guy in intersteller can use a blackhole to turn into a ghost that stand behind bookcases anywhere in the universe

  3. This is a lot more like those scientists who reported neutrinos travelling faster than light.
    1) They are doing so in the formal procedure for reporting results, not a press release to the nearest tabloid.
    2) They are not following it up with an offer for people to invest money.
    3) They are reporting weird results and asking for people to weigh in and explain it, not claiming they know it all and castigating anyone who disagrees.

In other words, they are following the correct scientific process, not the standard scamming process.

This does not mean they are correct. The neutrino thing was not correct. But the guys who made the mistake were behaving correctly. That’s the difference.

  4. I have read previous articles on fifth force and new particle that didn’t pan out. So I am going to wait for more prove before I break out the bubbly.

  5. May the force be with you…but only if you have a high concentration of midi-cholorians that generate the life-force.
