Israeli Coronavirus Vaccine 10 Weeks From Testing and Fast Tracking to Deployment 90 Days After

Forfour years, MIGAL [The Galilee Research Institute] researchers has been developing a vaccine against infectious bronchitis virus (IBV), which causes a bronchial disease affecting poultry. The poultry coronavirus has high genetic similarity to the human COVID-19, and that it uses the same infection mechanism. This could be a lucky break for minor modification of the existing vaccine to get a human vaccine approved in 90 days. The goal is to produce the vaccine during the next 8-10 weeks and to achieve safety approval in 90 days.

The effectiveness of the IBV chicken virus vaccine has been proven in preclinical trials carried out at the Veterinary Institute.

The vaccine is based on a new protein expression vector, which forms and secretes a chimeric soluble protein that delivers the viral antigen into mucosal tissues by self-activated endocytosis, causing the body to form antibodies against the virus.

Self-activated endocytosis is a cellular process in which substances are brought into a cell by surrounding the material with cell membrane, forming a vesicle containing the ingested material). The endocytosis mechanism is how the body forms antibodies against the virus. In pre-clinical (IN-VIVO) trials, MIGAL’s researchers have demonstrated that the oral vaccination induces high levels of specific anti-IBV antibodies.

The DNA of the novel coronavirus has high genetic similarity to the virus they have been using for testing. They use the same infection mechanism, which increases the likelihood of rapidly getting an effective human vaccine.

They are adjusting the DNA sequence and could have a vaccine in a few weeks.

“Given the urgent global need for a human coronavirus vaccine, we are doing everything we can to accelerate development,” MIGAL CEO David Zigdon said. The vaccine could “achieve safety approval in 90 days,” he said.

It will be an oral vaccine, making it particularly accessible to the general public.

  1. Cutting edge progressive for the times. That is the problem when modern first world folks stick their noses up in the air as they judge earlier cultures, they fail to take things in context and understand the conditions of the day.

  2. I’ve read that the virus dies quickly in temperatures above 80 degrees F. If enough people are infected it will stay around during a Northern Hemisphere summer but by the time fall comes we could have a vaccine.

Probabilities, numbers, shaving fractions off of the exponent.

  3. “Do you think Gilead will use this opportunity to create its own state and imprison women for forced impregnation?”

Such a 3rd rate dystopian novel.

  4. A simple google on “Corona Virus Vaccine” will answer that. Right at the top of the list (from Feb 24)

Drugmaker Moderna Inc. has shipped the first batch of its rapidly developed coronavirus vaccine to U.S. government researchers, who will launch the first human tests of whether the experimental shot could help suppress the epidemic originating in China.

Moderna on Monday sent vaccine vials from its Norwood, Mass., manufacturing plant to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in Bethesda, Md., the company said. The institute expects by the end of April to start a clinical trial of about 20 to 25 healthy…

  5. I just hope they have a big enough supply of remdesivir to start shipping it as soon as possible. One would think they would not have a large stockpile of this drug.

  6. Do you think Gilead will use this opportunity to create its own state and imprison women for forced impregnation?

  7. The best is the Schocken Bible. The translation is not complete. But the first volume is very good. There is a second volume. Haven’t got around to getting it yet. I am sure it is good too.

  8. And which group of people do you belong to that are doing “oh so great” work? And by the way, you are the one who put the label on the U.S. pharma industry. I didn’t see anyone else throwing that around. But you are correct, the U.S. pharma industry has made far more advancements than any other nation’s pharma in the past 100 years. If you had a smidgen of education about how the rest of the world rips off the U.S. pharma industry you’d understand how dumb your last sentence really is. Your lack of education on the subject is superseded only by your anti-American bigotry.

  9. A simple metric for unpacking comments is to look and see what the various countries in “the Middle East” are doing right now and judge them on that.

Its ok to move past the past.

  10. And Gilead has the antiviral remdesivir which can work to help people who have already contracted cov19.

  11. Oh come on now don’t be silly. Gilead and Moderna are doing fine work. Moderna has a vaccine that is entering human trials and Gilead is working with patients in China and Nebraska to test their antiviral remdesivir which has shown great promise in lab settings.

So the “oh so great” pharmaceutical industry already has a an antiviral that works well. That’s how great they are. They had capital, they invested it, and now they will save lives.

  12. The cure for COVID-19 will be available free at this date and location:
    Monday, March 2, 2020
    Charlotte, NC
    Bojangles’ Coliseum

  13. Moderna (US) is the only company that has a Covid-19 vaccine ready for human trials – they start in April. Clover Biopharmaceuticals (China) is also fairly close. Never heard of MIGAL, and I’ve not heard of it being mentioned by any epidemiologists.

  14. You completely failed to understand the argument, which is why it makes no sense to you.

It’s the consumers in the USA who pay more, not the corporations. Why would you think it’s the corporations?

  15. Good thing all those anti-Israel BDS supporters are boycotting Israel, which will leave more of the vaccine for the rest of us.

  16. And where is the “oh so great” pharmaceutical industry in the US at?
I thought our health care system was the best and the others were just “free riders”.
    LOL

  17. That’s really fast but a lot of people can get infected in 5+ months. There was a period in China when the number of case was doubling every 3 days. This theoretically means 1 case could turn into a billion cases in just 3 months. Of course that’s not going to happen in practice but it does show how long 5 months can be in a pandemic.

  18. When you buy a Hebrew slave, he shall serve six years, and in the seventh he shall go out free, for nothing. If he comes in single, he shall go out single; if he comes in married, then his wife shall go out with him. If his master gives him a wife and she bears him sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall be her master’s, and he shall go out alone. But if the slave plainly says, ‘I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free,’ then his master shall bring him to God, and he shall bring him to the door or the doorpost. And his master shall bore his ear through with an awl, and he shall be his slave forever.

    Exodus 21:2-6

  19. There’s a great deal to unpack in these comments. Our divisions as tribal societies very much highlights just how much we are alike.

The cultural fault lines between various societies in the Middle East are thousands of years old.

Cultural divisions slice deep, leave scars, and have their own own memory. Culture is learned. So is hatred, especially when taught to children from an early age. This needs to stop on all sides, or progress won’t continue for anyone.

I’ve always thought, since I was far too young to even be thinking about it, that there should be a Middle Eastern alliance of all the nations. Of course, some of that has happened in the past, come and gone due to war and Western nations carving things up. But, I mean in it’s current state. I’m an optimist (because if I get let down I get to drink about it!), so I don’t care if advocating for a coalition between all Middle Eastern nations is unrealistic. I just like the idea.

I think that would create more useful and productive conversations at a social level. If you think of the different cultures as elements, merge them and make a strong alloy. I think we’re also failing to do this on a species level, as well.

I see sociocultural mergers as providing an opportunity for massive progress. Wow, check out that burst of Capricorn, there: “sociocultural mergers” xD

To simplify further, everyone needs to forget who said what about who’s momma.

  20. Sad, but true. Golda Meir is thought to have said, “Peace will come when the Arabs will love their children more than they hate us.” Certain sects teach their children to hate the Jews and Americans. They will have a difficult time moving forward if they cannot move beyond the past.

  21. “I wonder if the Arabs and Persians will ever look at what is going on in Israel as a sign of things their own societies need to change.”

    Don’t hold your breath waiting.

  22. Israel sure punches above it’s weight. I wonder if the Arabs and Persians will ever look at what is going on in Israel as a sign of things their own societies need to change.

  23. “I will also make you a light for the nations, that you may bring My salvation to the ends of the earth.” Isaiah 49:6
