WKRP is part of the Thanksgiving tradition with its Turkey drop episode.
There was a famous line from Mr Carlson. As god is my witness I thought Turkeys could fly.
the episode had a marketing promotion go wrong as turkey were dropped to their death from a helicopter.
However, wild turkeys can fly. I have personally seen this when a wild turkey flew about 200 feet into a tree. Wild turkeys roost in treetops and about one-quarter of a mile and up to speeds of about 60 miles per hour.
There are many vidoes of wild turkey’s flying.

No they could not use wild turkeys… would have ruined one of the best comedic moments in TV history.
Did mythbusters ever do a lead balloon? If not; why not?

TL;DW: It flew
Even domesticated turkeys can fly enough to avoid that fate, if you stick with the small ones. They're not impressive fliers, but they can make short hops and keep their falling velocity down enough to be OK.
It's the monsters people use for a big family dinner with plenty of leftovers, (Like the 24 pounder I served Thursday.) that fly like lead balloons.
Yep, wild turkeys can certainly fly. Domesticated farm-raised turkeys dropped from a helicopter? Not so much.
Same to you, good sir!
Perhaps the funniest bit in television sitcom history. It brings me to tears every time I see it. Happy Thanksgiving USA!
