I was wondering about that myself, but "vision only" doesn't imply that it's restricted to visible light. Near IR vision would penetrate fog quite well.
Telsa "autopilot" isn't really about achieving a self driving car, it is about achieving tonnes of free PR for Telsa.
If Tesla is vision only, how well does it deal with dense fog? Would the cars go really slow?
I'm sure the software is great, but imagine trying to get FSD legislation through legislatures with unions, insurance companies, lawyers groups, and governments that profit from traffic tickets fighting it tooth and nail.
Speaking of insurance, Tesla promised auto insurance for it's products for other states than CA on 8-28-19, but still only insures CA drivers, with no hint of when others may apply. You'd think that they'd have at least set up shop in Texas, since they will soon be making vehicles there. If their cars are as safe as advertised, insuring them would make a bundle of money.
