We should be there with Beta 10, which goes out a week from Friday (no point release this week).
It will have a completely retrained NN, so will need another few weeks after that for tuning & bug fixes. Best guess is public beta button in ~4 weeks.

Elon says some things to mislead some haters and give clues to the supporters. He said the price of Tesla shares were too high just before a 5 to 1 split. The split generated a 50% price surge. Elon said beta 9.2 is not great just before announcing beta 10 in 1 week which will be great with fine tuning. You have to wait for the other shoe to drop
I think Elon was referring specifically to 9.8.2 I think. He had knowledge of the dual stack nature of 9.x (separate street and highway NN), which 10.x is merging into a single stack NN, though this being the Tesla FSD beta, there will probably be some bad regressions that will pop up with a x.0 release. Always seems like 3 steps forward, one step back with releases.
In his own admission, the Musk said that the software upgrade is ‘not great’ so don't expect much. Needs to be mentioned too in an article like this. He is not at a stage yet where he can fully admit admit that his approach to full autonomy is wrong, but it is coming.

I haven't been checking the videos of self driving cars. The last times I did they were driving on a sunny day with bare dry pavement.
Has self driving made any progress on dealing with less than ideal conditions like snow on the road?
