Elon Musk and Tesla will have the capability to go all-in on robotaxi in 2025. Will they choose to use it? The Full self driving software is improving by two to five times every three months in terms of miles between interventions. They will get to feature complete by the end of this year. Tesla has the unused car production capacity to make an extra million cars in 2025.
Tesla and Elon Musk have the goal of reaching a world with hundreds of millions of robotaxis delivering $10 trillion per year of low cost rides.
Waymo and the other robotaxi companies have less than 500 robotaxi each and are providing less than 5 million rides every year. They are charging about $2 per mile for rides in the USA. They are not substantially beating Uber and the human driver ridesharing companies at $2.50 per mile for rides.
The China robotaxi companies like Baidu’s Apollo Go have the willingness to push to thousands of robotaxi in 2025 even with human drivers or no human driver in the car and a remote driver for every 2 or 3 cars.
Will Tesla and Elon Musk be timid or aggressive with their rollout of supervised robotaxi and the transition to unsupervised?

I like your updates, Brian. Please do not be discouraged by a few angry people.
There is a lot of negativity in the world right now, none of it is your fault. There are 10,000s of people/month who read your posts. We enjoy your takes on the world of future tech.
Hlo Brain. I am a regular viewer of your website from last 2 years….regular means coming here every 12 hours to check new updates..but from last couple of months I am not enjoying your website because I am tech and futuristic enthusiast who loves to read every new technology updates going around world but from last couple of months you are just publishing more about tesla and elon….I am biggest fan of tesla and spacex and especially of elon…but I watch you website for updates from all over the world…like you don’t covered longevity summit of Dublin held in June…and also you have to be a netrual supporter not just a fan boy….not want to you take it as a criticism but just a friendly advice that don’t cover a specific topic so much. Keep you articles diverse and focus on concrete facts and not just predictions. At last still love your content 💙.
Agreed, I’m in the same boat as you.
I go to roughly 20 sites everyday after work, and get my tech fix.
I still love this site, but it has been slipping for months, as you’re hype focused on every FSD (12.5.1) update. Not enough medical breakthrough reporting, or robotics. Figure released a teaser video today, and it wasn’t even covered here.
Love the site, but please less FSD.
Also agreed. Musk is gaslighting lack of progress by constant “improvement” iterations whereby he gets to reset the clock each time, ignoring some very significant FSD failures/interventions wherein a driver has to take over in a split second at unpredictable instants – from a human driver’s POV (hardly a relaxing form of driving!). The liability questions have barely been addressed, and not addressed at all by actual insurance companies and regulators.
Mostly, there is just a lot more Next Big Future News out there to cover. Even if there’s FSD that’s better than human, the cars still take space on finite mostly urban roads, still stop to let off and on passengers, and can carry a finite number of them – who have to be going to other same place for robotaxis (or ANY taxis) to make sense. We need better mass transit and Elon Musk is stuck in a suburban car-centric surprisingly retro mindset, and can’t/won’t see that.
Tesla’s progress is evolutionary at this point, not revolutionary. His other companies have other problems that will hold him back – too much refueling for Starships, too dangerous for Nuralink implants to be used on everyone on a reward/risk basis, etc.
More revolutionary future, please.
…and the NY Times has some critical things to say about Robotaxis from Tesla too:
https://www.nytimes.com/2024/07/29/business/elon-musk-tesla-robotaxi.html
There have also been 100s of accidents, some fatal, from so-called FSD so far, says the NHTSA.
And no maker of autonomous cars is making money yet.
The most delusional guy on earth. No wonder you’re still insisting with LK99. Sorry to burst your bubble, but we will not have AGI in 2024, superintelligence in 2027. You’re just a scammer. None of your predictions about FSD, AGI, ASI have been right.
Well, today, using the latest FSD 12.5.1, my M3 scraped the bottom over a hump leaving my home and I disengaged to slow over a big dip that is hard to see. So 2 problems in the first minute. It doesn’t know where to park on arrivals and does not use reverse except to do parallel parking. Overall, its quite amazing and fun, but a good ways off from autonomous.
