FCC temporarily approves direct-to-cell Starlink service in areas impacted by Helene. Service went online Saturday in NC. This emergency service supports phones, regardless of carrier.

Starlink will save lives after Hurricane Milton hits Florida.
SpaceX Starlink will be saving lives for all future disasters in the USA and around the world.
They are delivering generators and Starlink dishes to restore communications. Every one thousand Starlinks delivered gives communication to about 10,000 peole communicating.
There are over 8500 Starlink orders in the just one area of North Carolina.
The clear demonstration of being the only communication after a devastating hurricane, will ensure that around the world there will orders for generators and Starlink satellite for medical, police, fire and other emergency services.
The direct to cellphone capability will be immediately activated for all 5G phones on all networks. This will enable texting, emergency calls and emergency notifications.

The phrasing makes it sound like you think Ukraine’s actions are somehow worse than Russia’s. Am I misinterpreting you?
Of course any war is pretty hellish. Are the drones really making it worse?
Is it legitimate defense? yes.
Has is gone into depravity and exhibition of death? yes, too.
I’m not that naive: wars is hell, always. But both participants have made a duty of being sure the killing of people by drones or whatever means are leaked.
It’s a war of media shockers, with an avid public expecting for the next ugly treat.
Outside of some ugly emergent usage cases like Ukraine’s disgustingly dehumanized drone war, Starlink is ending up as the real enable of the matternet, with heavy drones taking medical supplies and well, Starlinks to faraway locations in dire need of them.
This can be scaled up and become widespread.
