X Payments is coming soon!
– The feature is being tested internally on iOS and web
X Payments still faces several hurdles before it can fully implement its P2P payment feature:
* The company needs to obtain money transmitter licenses in the remaining U.S. states and territories.
* After securing “transmitter” licensing, X will also need to obtain “payment processor” approval in each state to facilitate direct in-stream shopping3
* Global expansion will require navigating complex regulatory environments in other countries.

Potential for Fiat and Cryptocurrency Support
There are expectations that the payment system might support both fiat currency and cryptocurrencies.
Integration with Existing Platform
The P2P payment feature will be integrated directly into the X app, allowing users to conduct financial transactions within the same interface they use for social media. This integration aims to showcase the power of living more of your life in one place.
Part of a Plan for An Everything Appp like WeChat
The P2P payment feature is part of Musk’s broader vision to transform X into an “everything app” that combines social media, payments, and various other services. This approach is inspired by apps like WeChat in China, which integrates messaging and financial service.

This also has an obvious connection to Starlink direct to mobile. It’s a huge advantage to a money transfer/payments/banking platform that it can be accessed from anywhere without even needing a cell data connection.
totally agree.. does it seem like the obvious move here is to potentially purchase t mobile and offer a one stop shop for cell, satellite internet on top of that?
Y? IF they make their own phones, which is a real possibility, they don’t need anyone else…
This is actually what I’m waiting on before joining X, especially if he goes ahead with the proposal to pay money market rates on your balance. I as an early adopter for paypal.
Unfortunately, paypal, (After Musk left!) decided that it wasn’t your money, it was their’s, and that they were entitled to tell you where you could spend it. I don’t expect Musk to do that. I want a guarantee that X will complete all legal transactions, no matter what they think of them.
Getting clearance from some of the states is going to be tough, though, given that Musk is now Public Enemy #1 on the left.
X has been licensed in about 40 states for payment transmittal.

OK, maybe they won’t find it so hard, if California was willing to approve them. Hawaii is the only state I’d expect to be more hostile.
He’s #2, Trump is still #1. lol
I he’s been wanting X to be the everything app, like WeChat, but that’s a tough and very ambitious road.
But his competitors keep making it easier by deliberately pissing off a large part of their potential market. Like Paypal, which after he left up and decided that they could tell you what you would be allowed to spend your own money on. Or Facebook and youtube, that decided to censor half the political spectrum. Or google, that keeps degrading their search function more and more with promoted results and burying things they don’t want you to find. Or the AI companies that produce woke products that think there were black kings of England, and routinely object to answering questions they think you shouldn’t ask.
Really, all he has to do to capture half the market is just make a non-judgmental product that works.
