Increased AI efficiency on training and inference will accelerate the improvement and usefulness of AI.

AlphaZero automated the learning and improvement Go playing. This sped up and increased the improvementand capabilities of Go playing AI.
Automated Reinforcement Learning means new AI models will be able to get the toughest questions with known correct answers to rapidly copy capabilities. It also means that AI systems will all be able to become more energy and memory efficient and more highly optimized. It also means that where human teams or systems can come up with harder and harder problems and still get the good answers, then AI will be able to up level intelligence.
Having automated research will mean AI systems that will be able to push the frontiers of knowledge.

The problem with physics may well be once it becomes abstract (11 or 13 dimensions) due to our physical bounds, we become disconnected from anything based in our perception of reality and those dimensions are just numbers. The key may be to using an AI to bridge those dimensions, where an AI can think in a dimensional space that we do not exist in. The current flat matrix math and time, in one perspective place AI within a three dimensional space of sorts (x,y,time). Increase the math dimensions (will need AI to do this) and then the AI exists and thinks differently, possibly in a way that we think it’s broken because we just can’t understand it.

Among the things that excites me is the possibility of having an AI seed concept space randomly, and develop NEW sets of physics that conform to observation beginning from those random seeds.
It may be that our current physics has led us to a local maxima in terms of understanding, and it would take something like that to get us out of it.
