Elon announced a deal for a Boring Company Dubai Loop at the end of video presentation interview.
I think it has something to do with countries wanting to get on Elon’s good side.
Las Vegas is building out a 68 mile Boring company system with 104 stations connecting everything along the Vegas strip to the Airport. This is likely in the $2 billion cost range. A similar sized Dubai Loop system would also be a few billion. The current phase 1 pilot will only be 11 stations and 17 kilometers (11 milees) of tunnel. This wuld be about $200 million.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai, in partnership with The Boring Company, have jointly announced they have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to bring TBC’s Loop system to Dubai as Dubai Loop with a 17 kilometer pilot Loop transportation system as the initial phase of the project.
xAI and Grok 3 and AI Leadership
Elon talked Grok 3 being released around the end of February, 2025.
Elon said Grok 3 should beat all other AI models on all tested metrics.
He said xAI might take a definitive lead that they will keep holding from Grok 3 onwards.
Dubai Traffic is Not Horrible But is Getting Worse
According to the TomTom Traffic Index, Dubai’s average congestion level in 2024 was 25%, which is 6 percentage points higher than in 20234.
During morning rush hour, the congestion level reaches 24%, while in the evening rush hour, it spikes to 60%4.
The average travel time for 10 km in Dubai increased to 18 minutes and 3 seconds in 2024, which is 1 minute and 10 seconds more than in 2023.
Dubai residents spent an extra 46 hours (1 day and 22 hours) driving in rush hours over the year, which is 9 hours and 33 minutes more than in 2023.
There is a need for tunnels and tunnels will help the travel.

The Boring company site says:
“About The Dubai Loop System
The Dubai Loop System will connect major hubs throughout Dubai. This initiative is designed to:
Reduce Travel Times: With potential speeds of up to 100 mph, the Loop could cut travel time between key points in Dubai to just minutes.
Increase Capacity: The ultimate expanded system aims to handle over 100,000 passengers per hour, providing a high-capacity solution to urban transport demands.
Promote Sustainability: Utilizing electric vehicles within a controlled environment, the system will contribute to Dubai’s ambitious sustainability goals, aligning with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050.”
Does anyone still believe Musk’s capacity & speed hype? The Las Vegas cars are still chauffeur-driven, go 35mph, at best, and don’t have the stated capacity during rush hours when it’s needed most. The promised E-bus never happened, and wouldn’t fit in the 12′ diameter tunnels anyway. The car elevators never happened. The switching sleds never happened.
The hype machine, however, is running full blast.
Lets hope that grok 3 is a reasoning model, ie uses test time compute to do better like o1, o3 and r1
Open ai’s next release will be GPT-4.5, and it wont have reasoning. But yeah, we are nearing the end of new models, not have reasoning.
So if Grok 3 doesn’t reason, it should still be a great improvement over grok 2 ,and Grok 4 will drop later this year, which would have reasoning. So while X.AI is behind others, they are doing a great job of catching up.
