Tesla Releasing FSD Features and Software to China

Tesla is releasing Full Self Driving Features into its China version of Autopilot. Having permission to place the software and features of Full Self driving will enable more of the value to be given to China customers. It will support pricing that is more like FSD than lower priced Autopilot.

The software version 2024.45.32.12 being rolled out in China is not officially called FSD (still NOA or autopilot) but does offer many features similar to FSD.

The 2024.45.32.12 update has begun rolling out in batches. The main upgrade contents are as follows:

Urban Road Autopilot Driving Assistance (Optimized NOA autonomous navigation driving assistance feature):

On controlled-access roads (where users typically pass through main entrances and exits) and urban roads, the Autopilot driving assistance will guide vehicles according to navigation routes.

The system will assist vehicles in entering and exiting highways and intersections, recognizing traffic lights to perform actions such as going straight, turning left, turning right, making u-turn, etc..

It will automatically execute lane changes based on speed and road navigation lines.

If no navigation route is set, the system will choose the optimal driving lane based on actual road conditions.

Tesla’s urban road-optimized Navigate on Autopilot (NOA) is an advanced feature initially introduced as part of the Autopilot suite, It was designed to handle highway driving by guiding the vehicle from on-ramp to off-ramp, managing lane changes, and following navigation routes autonomously—though it still requires driver supervision. It is now able to handle city streets, including handling complex urban scenarios like traffic lights, stop signs, pedestrians, and intricate intersections.

Autosteer on City Streets: Already a listed FSD feature, enabling the car to steer through urban roads.
Traffic Light and Stop Sign Control: Responding to signals, a core FSD capability.
Dynamic Route Optimization: Adapting to road closures or traffic, extending NOA’s highway navigation logic to cities.

These features blur the line between NOA and FSD, with urban NOA acting as a focused application of FSD’s broader toolkit.

  1. Isn’t China going to copy as Xpeng did or distill this like they did with DeepSeek and then make it open source? After that will there be any revenue stream at all from that massive investment made by Tesla?
