It could even be a positive for SpaceX Starlink finances with later upgrades to paid services from the freemium offer.

Free basic texting (10-100 texts/day) would use about 0.5 to 5.0 Terabits per second. Free basic voice would need become significant for bandwidth. Having recorded voice texts and compressing it to make it more manageable or having voice readout of texts and voice recognition input would work better. I think 100 messages per day would be the better option.

Texting is already free for any cell phone plan in Brazil. If you have a phone plan, even a pre paid one, usually calls to same operator AND all texting is free. Because nobody uses it. Everyone uses WhatsApp and the $$$$ to be made is on internet dataplans.

I am saying free texting (100 texts per day) without a phone plan.
A lot of developing countries use WhatsApp for all ordinary communication because it’s free if you can find WiFi. Starlink direct to mobile could provide a very useful layer of connection. X/Starlink has the potential to do payments everywhere – which don’t require more data than texting.
