Sad to see the political polarisation increasing and the rhetoric the violence increasing. I worry how far it will go. We have more in common than separates us.
He was willing to die for the second amendment, so there you go.
Yes we need to protect ourselves from garbage leftist who are responsible for most mass shootings, and political shootings.
“I think it’s worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights. That is a prudent deal. It is rational.”
Its really not ‘leftists’ that are causing the problem. Most school shooters probably don’t have an opinion on tax policies. Never heard of the bloke before today, but he can’t be accused of being a hypocrite.
“It is better that ten guilty persons escape than that one innocent suffer”.
That quote is the basis raising the burden of proof for guilt from screaming “WITCH!” at the accused to “innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt”. So, does that mean the people who believe that quote should be punished (maybe by busing the violent inmates from prison and dropping them off at their homes) since they want guilty people to go free.
That quote could never mean accepting the fact that a higher burden of proof meant some guilty people will go free but it’s the lesser of two evils with the other being throwing people in prison for spurious reason. No, people who say that just want murderers and rapist to go free.
We as a society figured out that it is actually much better for a criminal to go free than for innocents to be arbitrarily jailed because, breaking news! Humans are social animals and tend to go along quite well (all teh goups that did not go along got extinct…) and we see it in the crime statistics:
Durán, in Ecuador is considered the most dangerous city on the planet and is reported to have one of the highest murder rates in the world: about 148 homicides per 100,000. The most dangerous city has a murder rate of 1.4 persons per 1,000. so yes, rather than having a system where the regime can jail and abuse significant portions of innocents, it is better for a guilty person to go free because the state could not meet the burden of proof. And before screaming “let them stay in your house!” please remember that this very same “just in case” philosophy is what justifies the 2nd amendment: we keep an armed population just in case the government becomes a dictatorship…
what you claim is not factual
