I don’t know man. if I wasn’t already rich I would probably be fired from somewhere by now because of optimisation.
What’s worse is that my business is dependent on workers. If they are replaced by artificial then I am not sure how could I even restructure it
In the 1960s, we were already being promised a society of leisure and abundance. In reality, however, inequalities have exploded, growth has mainly benefited capital, people are working more and more, and technology is increasingly being used to monitor, optimise, and squeeze.
It is not technology that will save us, but a change in our worldview — a worldview that is no longer solely materialistic, but one that also includes the spiritual dimension of human beings.
The promise of leisure and abundance goes back long before the 1960’s. It was very clear already in 1930.
Keynes wrote then in his essay about how progress in science and technology will eventually produce an economy without significant scarcity:
“But beware! The time for all this is not yet. For at least another hundred years we must pretend to ourselves and to every one that fair is foul and foul is fair; for foul is useful and fair is not. Avarice and usury and precaution must be our gods for a little longer still. For only they can lead us out of the tunnel of economic necessity into daylight.”
Another hundred years from when he wrote this would take the date to 2030, pretty much exactly what we are now still predicting for this to apply to the developed world.

That’s nonsense. The average person in the West is way better off and lives a far richer and more comfortable life than in the 60s. The average working-class person even more so.
All this brewing resentment and anti-AI hate is coming from middle-class commentators worried that the $5-an-hour Mexican road sweeper will soon enjoy the same UBI as them.
