Elon Musk is Twice as Wealthy as Second Place Larry Page

It is rare for the richest person or the richest family to double the wealth of the next richest. Bill Gates achieved this in 1999 when he reached $90 billion while Warren Buffett was at $36 billion, and was close in 2001. The Walton family also achieved this in 1993 and 1994.

UPDATE: Bloomberg has updated with SpaceX valuation going from $400 billion to $800 billion. This accounting recognition increased Elon Musk net worth to $638 billion.

As of December 2, 2024 the net worth of the five richest individuals in the world was
Elon Musk: $353B
Jeff Bezos: $231B
Mark Zuckerberg: $210B
Larry Ellison: $198B
Bernard Arnault: $171B

As of Dec 15, 2025 Elon Musk has $509 billion and Larry Page has $252 billion. (per Forbes).

This is missing about $160 billion from the higher $800 billion valuation of SpaceX. Still showing about $400 billion from the July 2025 valuation of Spacex. Also, not showing the new XAI price of $230 billion.

Bloomberg is also showing a lower number for Elon. Bloomberg has Elon today at $470 billion and Larry Page at $266 billion. Elon would need to get to about $532 billion for double in Bloomberg. The Bloomberg numbers are from pricing yesterday and is up $17 today which is about $14 billion to his net worth or about $484 billion. Google is down 0.7% today. This puts Larry Page at about $264 billion.

The XAI price of $230 billion should be officially recognized when the funding round closes Dec 19, 2025. It might take until the Monday after to have the billionaire tracking lists to recognize it. The xAI funding round is targeted to close on December 19, 2025, raising $15 billion at a $230 billion pre-money valuation (implying ~$245 billion post-money).

Current Valuations Used by Lists (as of mid-December 2025)

Bloomberg Billionaires Index — Values xAI (post-merger with X, as XAI Holdings) at approximately $105 billion (after applying a 15% private-company liquidity discount). Musk’s stake is estimated at **33%**, contributing roughly $35 billion (pre-discount equivalent ~$41 billion) to his net worth.

Bloomberg impact: Pre-discount value could rise to ~$245 billion.
After ~15% liquidity discount: ~$208 billion.
Musk’s ~33% stake: Increase from ~$35 billion to ~$69 billion.
Net addition to Elon’s wealth: Approximately $34 billion added. This will push total toward $515–530 billion.

Every $1 increase in Tesla is worth about $712 million and every $20 increase is about $14.4 billion.
A $40-50 increase in Tesla to $520-530 would add $29 to $43 billion. This would be $544-568 billion.

Forbes Real-Time Billionaires — Appears to use a higher base valuation for xAI, likely in the $150–200 billion range (based on prior rounds and less conservative discounting), with Musk’s effective stake estimated at ~54% (higher due to different methodology post-merger and prior raises).

Elon’s real net worth is about $700 billion with proper valuation of SpaceX and XAI.

I had this forecasted back in 2024 for end of 2025. I was 99.9% sure from Jan to August but the delays in Tesla and other moves had me concerned.

I also created Elon Musk will 4X by 2030 and will 3X by 2028. I am at 99.9% certainty on those. The way metaculus prediction works is that you 100-200 points for being that certain but can lose 1000 or more by being certain on something that does not happen.

  1. It seems likely Musk will hit $1T net worth in 2026 after the SpaceX IPO and run up in TSLA. This will be long before the Trillion dollar options payout in his new comp package.

  2. He’s just getting started. I hope he has excellent security, because a lot of people are going to be coming after him.
