The US is getting faster at war. There was previously the 12 day war with Iran and now a 2 hour war with Venezuela.

Trump stated the US will run Venezuela temporarily until a safe, proper, and judicious transition to a stable government. Looks like active involvement until there is a fair election. A fair election will result in opposition winning. @realDonaldTrump @elonmusk pic.twitter.com/p92Ghyh8ch

This kind of operation would make it easy to take out the leadership of the Mexican drug cartels.
Trump on Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum: "The cartels are running Mexico. She's not running Mexico. We could be politically correct and be nice and say, 'Oh, yes, she is.' No no. She's very frightened of the cartels. They're running Mexico. And I've asked her number times,… pic.twitter.com/7OlEtQgMyf

In Iran, Nationwide unrest entered its second week with at least 10 deaths in clashes between demonstrators and security forces across cities like Tehran, Shiraz, and Mashhad. What began as anger over soaring inflation from U.S. sanctions has grown into crowds tearing down Islamic Republic flags, hoisting the pre-1979 Lion and Sun banner, and chanting ‘Death to the Dictator’ while demanding exiled Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi’s return. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei vowed to put ‘rioters’ in their place, distinguishing economic protesters from what he called enemy mercenaries, as security forces deploy live rounds, tear gas, and arrests amid internet blackouts.

One of the biggest results from this, and not something I hear many talking about, is the power this gives to Trump/USA at the negotiating table. Leaders saw what he did in Iran, and now how he handled Maduro. Russia is still stuck in a war after 4 years of trying to remove the government of a border, while the US takes out the government of a state that is not a border state – in two hours!
Trump understands that when you negotiate, people have to believe that you will follow through with your promises, positive or negative.
Eat my big bag of TACOs.
If you start kidnapping political figures other nations will plan the same, or worse, for you. And despite all the claims the security protection around a president is never perfect. I am pretty sure that a few tens of millions in Trump coins will grant as an operative a private meeting with the president then a handshake with the right poison and an overweight octuagenarian can end up with an heart attack after a couple of days. Most countries choose not to do these things, but if you start doing it, then do not complain when it comes back to bite you.
Don’t Invade Mexico!
They are a good neighbor, they cooperate with the DEA and other US drug and law enforcement agencies. Don’t violate their national sovereignty. Interdicting drugs at the border is our problem and our failure.
They helped us win WW 2 when the Germans tried to recruit Mexico to open a front on our southern border, they informed President Roosevelt and helped us capture spies.
They agreed to North American Free Trade Agreement that benefited all three countries in North America. Don’t treat them like a bunch of Bozos because they have a smaller military.
I agree that we shouldn’t invade Mexico, but they’re hardly a good neighbor. They’re a nearly failed state dominated by criminal cartels, that gives free passage to people intending to illegally cross our border. That’s NOT a good neighbor.
Do we have any responsibility WRT Mexico’s issues? My entire life they have been much poorer than the US. We have an endless amount of demand for drugs. Between the money and the guns pouring into their country exactly what can they do to fix this?
No, I don’t think we’re responsible for Mexico’s problems.
We didn’t make them poor, they failed to make themselves rich. Poverty is the default state of mankind, it’s wealth that needs explaining, not poverty. Mexico had everything they needed to be wealthy, but they blew it. Most of the world blows it, because while what you need to do to become wealthy is well known, it’s no fun for people running governments. It’s like being fat: Everybody understands the answer to that is diet and exercise, but people still end up fat, because people are bad at working for delayed rewards.
The truth of the matter is that their government is wildly corrupt and in bed with the cartels, and we didn’t do that, THEY did that.
Nor do they have a real problem with guns crossing the border from America. That was such a non-problem that the Obama administration had to artificially bump up the numbers with a gun running scheme to try to make their excuse for cracking down on American gun stores look vaguely plausible.
The cartels are armed out of Mexican Army armories, not American gun stores. Mexico blames us to divert the blame for that.
And Mexico has long deliberately enabled illegal immigration to the US because a lot of their economy is now fueled by remittances from illegal aliens.
Agreed
I’m with Brett, Mexico is a Narco State, NOT a nice friendly neighbor. It’s currently ran by a nutjob who pretends she’s in control, when everyone knows it’s the cartels.
That said, This was pretty much a one-off, it’s not standard policy to capture foreign dictators. He of course won’t say that, cause it’s better to have your enemies nervous. He gives them good reason to be nervous. lol
Lots of Debbie downers in the comment section.
I’m not a fan of regime changes, cause it usually leads to a worse dictator.
I’m also done with nation building attempts.
That said, this was surgical AF, very well executed, so I’m giving the Trump admin the benefit of the doubt. I’m assuming he has a good plan in place, and I’ll stay positive until proven otherwise.
Side note, Maduro lost election in 2024, and stayed in power, and the whole country of Venezuela seemed to be in the streets celebrating, so they clearly were wanting this.
So I remain hopeful.
Agree. So many pessimists in these comments. I’m happily surprised at how well executed this bag operation was, with no US losses. And, the US took out 32 commie Cuban agents at the same time. Wonderful. Surely this will give our direct enemies and those who depend on them pause and cause them to reflect on their weak situation. Trump is more than we deserve.
Trump has an ‘Empire of Japan’ philosophy about foreign policy which mainly focuses on taking control of the natural resources of other countries.
Trump’s hostility with Venezuela, Nigeria, and Iran is about taking control of their oil.
Trump’s peace efforts in Ukraine has focused on taking control of Ukraine’ mineral resources. Trump’s desire to take control of Greenland is also about taking control of their mineral resources. Trumps desire to take over the Panama Canal is– of course– obvious. Trumps desire to force Canada to become the 51st state is about getting access to their oil and mineral resources. Trumps desire to bailout the Argentine economy is about taking over Argentina’s valuable lithium resources.
And even Trump’s friendship with Putin is about gaining access to a trillion dollars worth of oil reserves in Russia’s arctic north using Exxon oil arctic technology. Trump even appointed a Secretary of State who was a former Exxon oil executive!
This will prove to be a big nothing burger. A regime change requires boots on the ground but this was actually just a US government sanctioned kidnapping which will probably go on to be determined to be illegal by international courts. Also, as far as trying him and his wife in a US Court, that will actually require real evidence and not something just trumped up so at some point the courts will end the fiasco and dismiss the charges against them.
Yet Juan Orlando Hernández, the former president of Honduras, was given a pardon last month despite being massively into cocaine shipments.
I guess we can look forward in 10 years to films about the American servicemen who dealt with the chaos in Venezuela, and are now feeling sad about it.
Everyone knows the real reason for the attack: Trump says US will be ‘very strongly involved’ in Venezuela’s oil industry after military attack.
Indeed. I was looking at YT channel of a guy working in the oil business. Most of US shale oil is very light. However, the refineries were build with heavier oil in mind. Hence teh US has to import heavy oil and mix it so it can be refined.
Additional guess from my side, with the oil prices being this low it could harm shale oil production and Russia. Bycausing unrest the oil price might go up. But that will also harm the economy in general.
The cure for low oil prices are low oil prices.
Not only the oil (or gold, which Venezuela has the largest reserves of too), but the Petrodollar itself. Muduro was evading sanctions by selling oil to China in Yuan. This happened when Qaddafi tried to create a pan-African gold dinar, when Hussein sold oil to Europe in Euros. The U.S. will do anything to preserve the petrodollar because without that, countries will realize there is not much behind the U.S. so-called wealth.
