Taiwan’s gross domestic product government forecast is now over 11.0 growth for 2026. The fastest growth in 39 years. The Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics also predicted 6.04% growth for 2027. The export of goods is expected to grow almost 40% this year to NT$28.64 trillion (US$894.5 billion). The economy grew 8.76% last year.
The exchange rate to the USD is 31.6. Q2 2026 had quarterly GDP of 8.04 trillion NTD.
Older IMF (International Monetary Fund) numbers saw Taiwan at about $1.15 trillion in 2029. Taiwan should pass $1.2 trillion in 2027. Taiwan could pass Saudi Arabia in GDP by 2030.

The US could see 10% or more extra GDP growth from now to 2029. This would mean $40 trillion economy in 2029 versus $36-37 trillion. Grok AI does not want to make a bolder prediction at this point.

Elon talked about future GDP and economic effects.

Taiwan and South Korea are under military threat from China and North Korea like never before. And the U.S. has proven incapable of defending them; maybe unwilling too, under Trump; did he lose the Gulf war on purpose? American presidents have been saying our allies should take on their own defense costs since the 1980s but none of the countries listened. Maybe making U.S. bases targets that can’t even defend themselves is what it takes to force that. Europe is mostly growing defense industries now, and little else, even shrinking in terms of traditional industries like autos and energy intensive industries (droughts hurt too, especially in Germany (shipping) and France (cooling nuclear power plants)).
That table is fascinating. Counter-intuitive.
Brazil outpacing Canada.
Poland outpacing Taiwan.
Turkey outpacing The Netherlands.
Mexico outpacing Australia.
India blowing past Japan.
As I’m often told: Past performance is no guarantee of future results…
the IMF estimates are before 2026, 2027 and 2028 AI growth is being recognized. Japan had almost no growth for nearly 3 decades. Taiwan will be outpacing Poland at least for the next few years.
